Haute Event: the Microsoft Store Opens at South Coast Plaza

March 24th marked the opening of the eighth Microsoft Store in the world — which just so happens to be at South Coast Plaza. With fanfare, famous faces and huge crowds, the store also opened with the promise of community involvement and a special performance from Disney Channel star Selena Gomez and the opportunity for visitors to take on reality super-couple Khloé Kardashian and Lamar Odem during a special Microsoft Kinect face-off.

Doors opened after a ceremonial ribbon cutting at 10:00 a.m. with a special presentation by Microsoft COO Kevin Turner. Alongside the opening of the newest Microsoft store, he announced a special $1 million donation in software grants to local organizations based on votes and suggestions on the brand’s Facebook page. Visitors to the store had the chance to get tickets to a performance by Selena Gomez the following day, with the first 150 given special VIP tickets and an autograph.

On opening day, however, reality television superstars Khloé Kardashian and Lamar Odem made an appearance that evening, pitting themselves against challengers on the Microsoft Kinect.

The Microsoft Store is a one-stop shop for technology and entertainment. In addition to PCs, notebooks and software, the store will sell Xbox 360 consoles and accessories, including the Kinect. In addition, the store will feature Windows phones and provide training and classes for various software and hardware to the community, business groups and more.

The Microsoft Store is located at 3333 Bristol St., at South Coast Plaza. For more information, call the store directly at 714.338.2130 or visit their official web site at www.microsoftstore.com.
