South By Southwest Festival Officially Adds Fashion to the Mix With Style X

Film, music, interactive : the holy trinity of the South by Southwest festival, which wrapped it’s 25th anniversary event this weekend in Austin. As usual, thousands flocked to the city from all over the world to behold some of the best and newest to come out of these three segments, comprised of industry professionals, appreciators and simple die-hard fans.

Fashion may not be on the line up, but it sure is everywhere at SXSW. It’s the perfect time to don all your daring pieces, to scout out new and exciting styles (Japanese-inspired, perhaps?) and rock out in your Sunday best. What was different about this year’s event, however, was the inception of Style X (pronounced Style By), a panel-led exhibit at the Austin Convention Center. Highlighting all things fashionable, from New York-based Jenny Musitano’s female-friendly Yours Truly Brand to Austin-based Tikkr’s stylish line of interchangeable watches – SXSW has cut a new segment out of its own cloth. Some of my favorites included Samii Ryan’s line of feather hair clips and earrings, Tortoise & Blonde’s haute sunglass line and the American Apparel flea market, an attraction that garnered a line that snaked around the entire center.

Will this be the beginning of the fourth SXSW theme? Could fashion become the proverbial Ringo Starr? Only time will tell.
