Ice Spy: The Irvine Spectrum Ice Rink Returns
We might be in the middle of another SoCal heat wave, but there’s no denying that the holidays are here. Halloween’s in the rear view and before you can say “ho ho ho,” you’ll be gearing up for the winter holidays (just don’t forget your shades). Just in time — and for an extended stay — the beloved Irvine Spectrum Ice Rink is back for some wintertime fun.
One of the season’s most anticipated events, the Spectrum Ice Rink is back in the center’s Giant Wheel Court, just steps from Nordstrom and Anthropologie. So if you need a break from shopping or just need a pick me up, slip out of your Choos, lace up your skates and slide onto the ice.
Due to overwhelming popularity, skaters can enjoy the 47 ft. by 72 ft. rink even longer this year. Usually only open until mid-January, this year, the rink will be open through February 21, 2011. That’s plenty of time to get in a lesson or two, set up a private skate party or just practice your skills with a one-time admission or a season pass.
The festive holiday ice rink is kept at a chilly 18 degrees, meaning no matter how hot the weather is outside the skate rink’s tent, the world’s smallest custom Zamboni is keeping the ice as smooth as glass. And this year the charming little sweeper is emblazoned with a Cadillac logo, so you can be sure the ice is as chic as it is slick.
The Irvine Spectrum Center is located where the Santa Ana and San Diego Freeways meet in Irvine. Visit www.skatespectrum.com or call 949.748.8280.
