Fall Rocks: Of Montreal with Janelle Monáe

Get ready to give the fall season a much needed kick and totally rock out with Athens, Georgia’s most celebrated indie band Of Montreal, as they play Atlanta’s Variety Playhouse tonight at 8 p.m. with special guest, and Atlanta hometown favorite, Janelle Monáe. The weather is chilly, but great music by these amazing artists is sure to heat up anyone’s Sunday night.

Fresh on the heels of their latest release False Priest, Of Montreal is touring the country promoting the album which features collaborations with artists such as Solange Knowles and their opening act on tonight’s show, Atlanta native Janelle Monáe. Collaborating with Grammy-nominated producer Jon Brion and recording at famed recording studio Ocean Way, False Priest features a return to the use of organic instruments for the band, including live drums, strings and pianos replacing the midi sounds and sequences of prior albums. Fans can also expect the band to play a heavy supply of old hits that bring crowds to their feet every time.

As for their opener, what a whirlwind year it has been for Janelle Monáe. With the release of her critically acclaimed and commercially successful album The ArchAndroid, Monáe is finally reaching the level of success that her throngs of die-hard fans have been anticipating for years. Known for high-energy and electrifying performances, expect to be completely blown away tonight if you are one of the few who has yet to experience her live show.

Although far from the biggest venue in Atlanta, Variety Playhouse has a well-deserved reputation as one of the best places in the city to see a live show. Tickets are $27.50 and at press time there were still some available.

Variety Playhouse is located at 1099 Euclid Ave.  404.524.7354
