The Biltmore Hosts Health And Wellness Festival

The mind, body and spirit will come together at the Biltmore Hotel for the second annual Biltmore Health & Wellness Festival, an exciting and innovative weekend festival taking place October 15, 16 and 17, 2010. Whether seeking information or inspiration on a healthy lifestyle, guests will come together with internationally renowned pioneers in medical science and the healing arts to celebrate everything health and wellness. Festival-goers can choose to partake in a number of in-depth workshops with noted presenters.

Friday’s program includes a Women’s Health & the Environment conference and organic gourmet luncheon with keynote speaker Dr. Devra Davis, best-selling author of the Newsweek “must read,” The Secret History of the War on Cancer, and the recently released Disconnect: The Truth About Cell Phone RadiationDr. Davis will address issues of breast cancer, the environment and protecting your family from cell phone radiation. Also on Friday and Saturday is the opportunity to learn in interactive workshops with esteemed Qi Gong medical practitioner and professor Dr. Steven Aung, and pioneers of Chinese medicine’s “Five Phase” typology Efrem Korngold and Harriet Beinfield, authors of the popular Between Heaven and Earth.

Saturday will feature an interactive culinary demonstration and luncheon led by Master Chef and Zen Priest Edward Espe Brown,co-author of San Francisco’s Greens cookbook, who will delight his audience with his favorite healthy cooking techniques that reveal how “Nirvana begins in the kitchen.” Evening festivities include two musical highlights hosted by WLRN’s Michael Stock on Friday night’s “Yoga Jam,” set to live music performed by yogic music bands and featuring South Florida’s finest yoga instructors; and Saturday night’s “World Healing Music Concert,” set in the hotel’s elegant Country Club Ballroom.

Sunday’s day-long celebration features organic food and wine tastings, an herbal elixir bar, culinary demonstrations, yoga classes, guided meditations, healing massages, Qi Gong workshops, Tai Chi and prayer dance. Experts will be on hand to offer tips on golf, fitness trends, family nutrition, community wellness and environmental health issues. Guests will be able to consult with healthcare professionals from the University of Miami Medical School’s Center for Complementary and Integrative Medicine, and learn from prominent acupuncturists, practicing physicians and professors of Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine. Sunday will be filled with a variety of fun activities for children, including painting a community mural, filmmaking, a storytelling project and creative movement to joyful music. The weekend festival will culminate with the world’s largest group acupuncture experience on Sunday.
