The Ritz-Carlton has always been known for its over-the-top attention to detail. At any given property, guests will find signature “Butler” services that tend to specific needs. For example, at the Ritz in Boston, a Bath Butler will create the perfect aromatherapy dip in the tub; in San Francisco, a Technology Butler is available to help non-savvy folks get their gadgets working; in Colorado, a Ski Butler ensures visitors are ready to hit the slopes.
But the Butler that makes the most headlines is here in Miami: The Tanning Butler. The term is trademarked by the property; Michelle Payer created the position a few years ago as a Miami twist on the typical English butler. During peak tanning hours (read: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday through Sunday), The Tanning Butler roams the pool and beach at The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach offering the bevy of sunning beauties complimentary protection from the rays, even helping those interested apply the lotions and oils in the hard-to-reach areas.
It’s often referred to as “The World’s Best Job” (even CNN used that wording this week), so Haute men of Miami take note: the Ritz is currently looking for a fresh face (and hot bod) to help prevent guests from getting the dreaded “tourist tan.” The gent who most recently strolled the beachfront property armed with the custom holster laden with bottles of sunscreen, Evian spritzer, and sunglass cleaner was scooped up by Armani for a modeling gig in Italy.
Be aware that there is a bit more of an audition process than a typical job interview entails. In order to be deemed worthy enough to wear the official Tanning Butler t’shirt, there will be a rigorous screening process, complete with an appearance before a panel of judges. (Vivica Fox was a judge a few Butlers ago.)
