2010 Arthritis Walk Kicks Off May 1 in South Florida
For Robert Castro, president of Bankers Healthcare Group, supporting the Arthritis Foundation’s signature 2010 the Arthritis Walk® in south Florida was a no-brainer.
“Arthritis is the nation’s most common cause of disability,” says Castro. “As one of the nation’s leaders in financing the needs of healthcare professionals, we were compelled to support the 46 million Americans suffering with arthritis.”
Kicking off May 1 as part of the Let’s Move Together campaign during National Arthritis Month, this year’s walk will raise money and awareness for arthritis research, health education and government-advocacy initiatives. The support of organizations like Bankers Healthcare Group is essential to the success of each walk which assists in the effort to prevent, control and cure arthritis and related diseases.
Along with more than 300 communities nationwide, south Florida participants will walk in honor of a friend or family member with arthritis. Those with arthritis will wear blue hats to signify their action in taking control of their condition. The event at Markham Park in Sunrise will feature a three-mile and one-mile course, with arthritis information and activities for the entire family. Participants are invited to bring their dogs as the event is also a dog walk. The walk kicks off at 8 a.m. with registration information available at the Arthritis Foundation’s Web site.
“By joining the 2010 Arthritis Walk®, you become part of the nationwide effort that encourages people to prevent or treat arthritis,” says Castro. “I’d encourage businesses, organizations and residents across south Florida to join BHG in this important effort.”
Robert Castro lives with his wife, Sofia, and their two children in Las Olas. They are members of the Las Olas Yacht Club and Weston Hills Country Club.
