On Thursday, Tommy Hilfiger hosted a special screening of the new movie Precious at the Cinema Society on East 78th Street. Attendees included Sapphire, author of the best-selling novel Push on which the film is based; director Lee Daniels; Gabourey Sidibe, who plays the title role; and General Colin Powell. Actors Terrence Howard and Kyra Sedgwick, model Iman and designer Donna Karan were among the other guests. The New York Times’ A.O. Scott designated the film a Critic’s Pick and praised the 26-year-old relative newcomer Gabourey Sidibe as the “glue that holds it together.”

On Friday, the MacDella Cooper Foundation held it’s sixth annual Sharing the Light Gala at the Four Seasons Restaurant on East 52nd Street. Guests included CBS new anchor Cali Carlin, model Heidi Albertson, and Liberian born singer Zelma Davis of C+C Music Factory. Founded in 2004, The MacDella Cooper Foundation is an international charity devoted to helping Liberian children by providing basic necessities such as food, shelter and education, with the aim of ending the poverty cycle.


On Saturday, Christie Brinkley, along with her 11 year-old daughter Sailor Cook, hosted the inaugural Tea Party Angels Event at Doubles on Fifth Avenue. The organization’s mission is to imbue young women with a sense of social responsibilities, while raising funds for underprivileged girls around the world.
