New Guard: Thakoon, Alexander Wang, Sophie Theallet, Rodarte for the Gap at The Met Ball

News | May 4, 2010

Last night the fashion set was out in droves for the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala. What has been deemed “The Oscars of Fashion,” the Met Ball is the biggest evening for fashion in the U.S. all year. Stars are meant to choose the most fashion forward red carpet looks, and impress the fashion industry with their chic style.

Oprah Winfrey, Anna Wintour of Vogue, and Patrick Robinson of the Gap hosted the annual event this year. Gap was also on board as the evening’s sponsor. Last year Marc Jacobs lead the night with his interpretative gold toga worn by super Kate Moss. And this year, several young (well, maybe not so young in age, but definitely young in fashion years) designers created one-of-a-kind gowns in collaboration with the Gap. Sophie Theallet, Alexander Wang, Rodarte, and Thakoon each designed dresses for Hollywood leading ladies, including Vera Farmiga, Jessica Alba, M.I.A., Zoë Kravitz, Kirsten Dunst, and Kerry Washington and Riley Keough, respectively.

Later we will bring you Haute Living’s best dressed of the evening, but, now, let’s take a look at the custom creations made by these influential young designers.
