In an exclusive interview with Zane Lowe, actor Will Smith announced his plans to return to the music industry with a tour with longtime friend DJ Jazzy Jeff.

Lowe commenced the interview noting that it’s the first time the actor, who once made music, is talking with award-winning radio DJ in 10 years. The actor responded, “I know man I’ve been away doing some other stuff. I’ve been making kids and stuff that takes a little bit of your attention.”

While Smith is only at the “beginning of the process,” he did reveal how his collaboration Bomba Estéreo’s “Fiesta” came to be. Smith was in Columbia with Latin actor, singer and producer Marc Anthony, who was performing in South America. While in Columbia, the Philly native heard Bomba Estéreo’s record called “Fuego,” which he thought was “crazy.” Smith had a chance to hear “Fiesta,” as a result of his manager who is friends with the head of Estéreo’s record company.

Smith admitted he’s terrified of getting back into the music industry. He said, “When you’ve had a certain amount of success, it seems like it should breed confidence. But it actually doesn’t… When you win a lot, and then you lose the ability to lose. You’re not allowed to lose anymore,” he explained. “You actually lose the ability to create. The reckless abandon – and it’s something I’m actually getting back from watching my kids. They really don’t care. That kind of reckless abandon and that lack of fear. And not trying to protect anything, and not trying to live up to a legacy or anything like that.”

As for the tour, Smith said, “I am pretty certain I am going on tour.” The father-of-two disclosed he has never been on tour with his longtime friend and DJ Jazzy Jeff. He continued, “Jeff and I actually have never done a full tour. I was always on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, or making a movie. So we’ve never actually done a full tour so I’m looking this summer to be the first time we go out on a full world tour.”
