Looking Good, Feeling Good
Like most Angelenos, I also take the requisite weekly yoga classes. My yoga studio, like most LA fitness centers, is a health-and-wellbeing compound with a wellness center, a café and a store. After class, I was wandering around the shop, looking for a birthday present for a friend who’s a Kundalini fanatic; however, a new sticky mat or Om-printed Tee just wouldn’t do.
Luckily, amongst the sheepskins and the incencse, lay a jewelry line called Satya Jewelry. Created by a pair of yoginis, Satya’s elegant offerings employ a blend of eastern-inspired designs with semi-precious gemstones, gold and silver. Each stone is selected for its storied special powers: sapphires are alleged to increase prosperity for its wearer, rubies ignite passion, and aquamarine bolsters courage.
Satya Jewelry also incorporates a variety of symbols derived from ancient spiritual icons, characters and texts which have specific meaning, ranging from the Buddha to the Tree of Life as well as pieces that incorporate birth stones. Eureka! Birthday present problem solved.
I went home and researched the line online to view the collection in its entirety. I’ve decided to get my buddy a tourmaline pendant necklace, tourmaline being the birthstone for October. And, I plan on picking up gold lotus flower earrings which symbolize “New Beginnings” for another friend who’s just bought a new country home and a charm necklace bearing the image of Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity, for a friend that’s just had a baby and . . . at the rate I’m going, everyone I know will wear Satya Jewelry.
Currently Satya Jewelry is available at Golden Bridge Yoga, The Craft and Folk Art Museum, and Exhale Spa though rumor has it that a Satya Jewelry boutique may open doors next year in town. Cross your fingers . . .
