What Is Ozempic Face?
Last reviewed: May 2026 · Haute MD Editorial Team
Ozempic face refers to facial volume loss — sunken cheeks, hollow temples, looser skin, and an aged appearance — that can occur with rapid significant weight loss on GLP-1 medications. It results from loss of facial fat pads (not a side effect of the medication itself) and is treatable with dermal fillers, biostimulators (Sculptra), Morpheus8, or surgical procedures.
Why it happens
The face contains discrete fat compartments that thin with significant weight loss. The cheeks, temples, and periorbital areas are most affected. The same change happens with any rapid weight loss, but GLP-1s have made it more common and visible.
How to prevent it
Slower weight loss (1 pound per week vs. 2+), adequate protein and hydration, and maintaining muscle mass help preserve fullness. Strength training including facial expression muscles can help marginally.
Treatment options
Dermal fillers (Restylane, Juvederm, RHA) restore volume immediately. Sculptra stimulates collagen for gradual restoration. Morpheus8 tightens skin. Facelift or fat transfer is appropriate for significant laxity. A consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon or cosmetic dermatologist is recommended.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Ozempic face permanent?
Volume loss is largely permanent without intervention, but is fully treatable with aesthetic procedures.
Will stopping the medication restore my face?
Only if weight is regained — which defeats the purpose. Aesthetic treatment is the better path.
How much does treatment cost?
Filler maintenance: $1,500-$3,000/year. Sculptra: $4,000-$6,000. Facelift: $20,000-$50,000+.
Should I delay treatment?
Wait until weight is stable for 3 to 6 months before significant aesthetic intervention.
