Zachary Newland is an attorney with over a decade of experience representing clients in civil and criminal litigation matters in federal court. He handles all aspects of the litigation process, including client consultation, legal research, motion practice, discovery management, trial advocacy, and appellate representation. Zachary has appeared as counsel of record in over 120 federal cases across the country since 2016, representing clients when the stakes are highest.

High-Profile National Cases. Zachary has worked on numerous high-profile federal criminal cases as part of national defense teams. He represented Bernard Madoff in a matter governing global press coverage while seeking compassionate release from the Federal Bureau of Prisons. He represented Ross Ulbricht in a pioneering case involving cryptocurrency, the dark web, and alleged drug transactions in an effort to overturn Ulbricht's conviction. He also represented Joseph Maldonado-Passage, known as Tiger King, among other notable clients. In the case United States v. Ali Danial Hemani, Zachary served as counsel of record before the United States Supreme Court, challenging the constitutionality of criminal charges for firearms and unlawful drug use under the Second Amendment. He was also selected to lead amicus briefing as counsel of record for the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in Pharms v. United States before the United States Supreme Court.

A Broad Federal Practice. Zachary handles all types of federal criminal cases, including white collar crimes, wire fraud, money laundering, conspiracy, drug offenses, healthcare fraud, and firearms charges. His representative matters include successfully obtaining a complete acquittal for a client at a two-week murder trial based on self-defense, securing a reversal in the Seventh Circuit on a Fourth Amendment suppression issue, overturning a client's conviction after 4.5 years of litigation in the co-defendant case arising from the Jared Fogle matter, and securing a published opinion from the Tenth Circuit on an issue of first impression. He has also secured presidential clemency for multiple clients, resulting in reduced sentences and early release from prison.

Zachary earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and his undergraduate degree in Political Science from Oklahoma City University. He is admitted to practice in all courts in Texas and Colorado, before the United States Supreme Court, and before the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Ninth, and Tenth Circuits.
