For sisters Mahsa Hakim and Nazanin Hakim, it was a journey that combined their family's medical background with their artistic talents. Today, their mission is clear: to provide exceptional dental care that not only enhances smiles but also transforms lives. Was there a personal and/or professional experience that inspired you to open your practice?

We are two sisters who moved to the United States in 2000. One side of our family are doctors and the other side are artists. We wanted to pursue our passion in healthcare and also use our artistic talents. Dentistry is bringing these two passions together. It is art and it is science. We moved to San Francisco in 2002 and became classmates at UCSF dental school. After graduation, we had a dream to open a high-end boutique dental practice where we could create beautiful smiles. We bought a small practice in 2009. As our business grew, we decided to expand. With the help of a top dental architect and an interior designer, we designed a practice that is unique, luxurious, warm, welcoming, and modern with the newest dental technology, offering comfort and privacy to our patients.

What was your mission at the start of opening your practice? Has it changed?

Our Dental Practice in downtown San Francisco revolves around our passion for high-quality dentistry and the artistry skills that can improve a person’s health, smile, confidence, and even life. We are committed to providing our patients with exceptional dental care, a relaxing environment, patient education, and preventive dentistry expertise they deserve by using the latest dental technology and cosmetic dentistry procedures. Our goal is to partner with our patients to help them achieve and maintain excellent oral health throughout their lifetime.

If you had to pick three words to describe the vibe of your practice, what would they be and why?

Luxury Without Limits, Relaxation Elevated, Holistic-High Quality. We have created a welcoming space with highly trained staff to focus on customer experience. We are using the newest technology and participating in training sessions and seminars to grow professionally and personally. Our goal is to bring the highest level of care and the most exquisite experience to our patients. We have several stories of our happy patients who had their smiles enhanced at our office and how this transformation turned their lives around for the better. This is our mission statement - We Design Smiles.

How did you come up with the name of your practice?

We chose the name of our practice based on the geographic location. We always dreamed of having an office by Union Square at 450 Sutter, which is a historic medical and dental building in San Francisco.

What are the most popular services requested?

The most popular services requested include general dentistry, replacing missing teeth, smile makeovers, and cosmetic and veneers.

What is the future of your field?

The future of the field of dentistry holds exciting prospects, with advancements in digital dentistry, AI integration, disease prevention, and the potential use of stem cells for recreating teeth and gums.

What are you best known for?

We are best known for our reputation as comprehensive, professional, gentle, artistic, clean, holistic, and high-quality dentists, which resonates with our patients.

What is unique about your practice?

This is a family business. We are two sisters working closely and side by side, the flow and design of the office is very unique. Many of our patients tell us that they don’t feel like they are in a typical dental office and that the office feels good. We use the newest technology to scan the patient’s mouth and we use the scan to educate our patients about their oral health.

Are there any new services you are excited to offer?

We are excited to offer a range of new services, including cosmetic dentistry, Invisalign, tooth replacement with implants, crowns, and veneers, as well as Botox treatments and sleep apnea solutions.

What is one underrated service that doesn’t receive as much press as it should be?

An underrated service that deserves more attention is the application of porcelain veneers and personalized smile design, which can have a transformative impact on a person's dental aesthetics.
