Surgical body contouring is as popular as ever. Keeping that in mind, Haute Beauty asked Haute Beauty expert Dr. Yuly Gorodisky to talk about the body-shaping trends he has seen first-hand. Here is what he had to share on the surgical procedures available for the body.
Body Shaping Trends
The first thing that patients who are seeking body contouring cosmetic surgery need to realize is that body contouring is not a weight loss solution.
If you are overweight or gaining weight, it is better to achieve a stable, healthy weight before surgery. Patients who are overweight may end up accumulating fat after body contouring and will not have long-lasting results.
The best candidates for body contouring are at a stable and healthy weight but have some excess fat deposits that need to be improved. There are two types of surgical body contouring approaches that deal with fat and skin. If skin excess or laxity is not a concern, liposuction may be performed. This is done by removing the fat via a thin tube and a suction device through small skin incisions. The fat may be saved and used for enhancing the shape of the buttocks, muscles, and breasts, or even for face rejuvenation.

If skin laxity is a problem, often skin removal is necessary, but sometimes a less invasive option may be available. Radiofrequency devices such as BodyTite and Renuvion may be used to stimulate tissue contraction, but if there is severe skin laxity or excess skin, a skin excision (such as a tummy tuck or an arm lift) may be necessary.
One very popular type of body contouring is fat transfer to the buttocks. Although the preferred shape of buttocks has trended toward smaller in volume, the ideal waist-to-hip ratio of 0.67 is still the most preferred among the patients looking for body contouring.
Patients considering body contouring procedures often benefit from lymphatic massages and wearing compression garments to help them heal after surgery. Final results usually take about three to six months to stabilize after surgery but your end result will be snatched.
