In most cases, one hair transplantation session can permanently restore lost hair that continues to grow as if it was always there. Although it can take up to one year to see the final results, a vast majority of patients say the wait is well worth it.

Dr. Rodríguez-Feliz devotes a significant part of his practice to follicular unit extraction (FUE), an advanced hair restoration technique that harvests follicular units one by one from the donor area before they are grafted to the scalp or other areas. Depending on the size of the area being treated, as many as 2,500 to 3,000 grafts (with one to four hairs each) can be performed during one session. There is minimal downtime associated with FUE, and patients who undergo the procedure on a Thursday can usually be back to work on Monday (in the case of larger treatment areas), and recovery is relatively easy as well.

The same FUE technique used for the scalp can be used to restore the shape and density of the eyebrows as well. However, it’s important to keep in mind that natural eyebrows only grow to a certain length, so hair transplanted from another area of the body may need to be trimmed regularly.
