Unfortunately, it is very rare to encounter an individual who hasn’t been affected in some way by Breast Cancer. Breast Cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women. On average, every 2 minutes a women is diagnosed with Breast Cancer. In addition, 1 woman dies of Breast Cancer every 13 minutes. With the month of October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, it was important for DiFrancesco Plastic Surgery to do something special to help with the fight against breast cancer.
Dr. DiFrancesco is an active member on the board of Sisters By Choice charity, an innovative leader in breast cancer education, awareness and support for women diagnosed with breast cancer.
"Sisters By Choice (SBC) was founded in 1989 by Dr. Rogsbert F. Phillips-Reed, a prominent Atlanta-based breast surgeon, SBC has evolved into a multi-faceted organization providing services for the uninsured and underserved women.
SBC provides over 800 free mammograms and breast exams to uninsured, unemployed and homeless women each year as well as providing free educational seminars, workshops, and health fairs to promote breast cancer awareness.
Sisters By Choice’s Mission Includes:
- The Sisters By Choice Mobile Breast Clinic will provide breast health services (breast cancer screenings, diagnostic services, treatment and education), to the underserved urban and rural areas of Georgia
- The Annual Pink Ribbon Walk The Annual Breast Cancer Awareness and Educational Weekend
- Primary support network for breast cancer survivors and their families
- SBC Homeless Project – serving homeless and underserved women
- Sponsorship and participation in Community Health Fairs and Screening Programs
- Develop SBC Chapters nationally."
