If you haven’t had the opportunity to attend one of Slow Food Miami’s many events, the beginning of the spring season is the perfect time to do so. Slow Food Miami is the local chapter of the international eco-gastronomic organization aimed at bettering the world’s eating habits as well as the well-being of the people and land that produce it. The local group, or convivium as it is deemed, is headed by prominent local individuals like Rene Frigo, co-founder of Lucini Italia, a producer of fine Italian olive oils and Dawn Fine, local arts activist and connoisseur. The main goal of the local convivium is to expose school aged children and teenagers to edible farming. Over the past 2 years, more than 30 organic edible gardens have been installed in schools throughout the county including Booker T. Washington High School, South Miami Senior High School, Coconut Grove Elementary School and Richmond Heights Middle School. All proceeds from the fundraising events go to establish the aforementioned local school gardens.

O, Miami, the city’s first poetry festival, launches in less than one month on April 1st, and set to last the whole month of April (this is no April Fools’ joke). I recently got the opportunity to speak with Scott Cunningham, the founder of the University of Wynwood, about the upcoming poetic festival and Miami.

Join other art aficionados for the opening of Jipsy’s first solo exhibition at Butter Gallery in the Wynwood Arts District. Jipsy, also known as the Nefarious Girl, made a name for herself back 2002 as a haute nightlife photographer, exposing the true face of Miami’s pulsating nightlife. It was a purple and pink wonderland last night atop the beautiful Herzog & de Mueron building on 1111 Lincoln Road as guests and celebrities came out in hoards to celebrate the sweetest sold out event at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, Let Them Eat Cake. The over the top cakes, paid homage to the 10th anniversary of the festival, impressed as well as hit the sweet spot.

Last night, hundreds of Miami’s finest gathered at the W Hotel on 22nd and Collins Ave. in South Beach to celebrate the very best in Southern Hospitality. The sold out event hosted by Chef Adam Perry Lang and Chuck Miller of Stillhouse Distillery and Moonshine® was a true homage to Southern flavors and style.

Last night, ORNARE, the contemporary Brazilian furniture and design store in Miami’s Design District, hosted the Kickoff Party for the Environmental Coalition of Miami & the Beaches’ Annual “GreenRaiser” Party to take place on Thursday, April 21st. Guests in attendance were treated to organic cocktails by Veev, Brazil’s own acai spirit, bites from Hawa Fusion, and green gifts from the furniture store.
