Ogling Oscar de la Renta
Hands down, my favorite show during NYFW is Oscar de la Renta. The venue is perfect (583 Park Avenue), the chandeliers shimmer and the clothing…well, the clothing speaks for itself. After the show, at a press day, is when I get to see the accessories up close and personal. While I’m on a nude kick (this seems to be ongoing), two pairs of heels really caught my eye.
The Art of the Automobile – Masterpieces of the Ralph Lauren Collection
Beauty and utility combine in Ralph Lauren’s newly curated collection of classic high-profile sports cars. The collection, curated by Rodolphe Rapetti, showcases 17 rare and prestigious sports cars manufactured and designed between the 1930s and 1990s.
Thomas Pink Winter Preview
I recently attended the Thomas Pink Winter 2011 Preview at the Crosby Street Hotel. I was sold on the venue alone, and the decor that so appropriately coordinated with the shirting fabric and patterns was nothing short of impressive.
Pratesi 2.0
One of the best feelings is sleeping on clean and crisp sheets. With Pratesi 2.0 adorning your bed, this feeling will undoubtedly never fade. The 105 year old company known for its high thread count and quality just announced the debut of Pratesi 2.0, the next concept in modern luxury. The same qualities found in Pratesi carry over to this new line that will be sold at the new Pratesi store in Melrose Place, Los Angeles, ABC Carpet & Home in New York City, and Lane Crawford in Hong Kong.
C.Greene’s Serpent Gems
I’ve always had a fascination with jewelry in the shape of serpents. I came across this C.Greene double snake coil ring ($5,000) and instantly fell in love. The ring is not only a statement maker, but it’s a show stopper. It looks as though the reptile is slithering up one’s finger, although clearly that’s not a reality, as diamonds are inset from head to tail.
Met Gala Roundup
The Met Costume Institute Gala, commonly referred to as the “East Coast Oscars” took place last night. The star-studded fashion fete brought every stunner out of the woodwork, although four in particular stood out to me.
I love reporting after the night of a red carpet, so here are my picks!
Minnie Rose: Always in Season
Weather is unpredictable. Yesterday was a balmy 70 degrees, perfect for running on the West Side Highway. Today is a dreary 54 degrees, no sign of sun in sight. Thinking ahead to our Summer wardrobe, chilly nights out East call for one thing: a yummy cashmere topper. Minnie Rose launched in 2006 with a focused mission: to offer stylish women something beyond traditional cashmere-pieces that turned heads for their fashionable look.
A Nod to The Royal Wedding
I must admit, I think this whole Royal Wedding talk has become too much and too often. I’ve succumbed to listening to my iPod while at the gym instead of catching up on my morning news. Because apparantly there is no news besides Kate and William’s union. I’m hoping the obsession will end after tomorrow’s nuptials, but something tells me there will be an aftermath.
As One: New Trend in Fitness
New Yorkers are always looking for the next trend in fitness. I think I’ve found it, and it’s here to stay! As One Fitness is a unique workout devised by Mark Merchant and George Vafiades. Both are tri-athletes, tri-athlete coaches, personal trainers, and veterans of six 24 hour races and 6 full Ironman triathlons respectively. Needless to say, you’re in good hands! The philosophy of As One is to work out in a small group, similar to how tri-athletes train, so the support of the “team” helps push you through the workout, both physically and mentally.
