Lauren Kent

Born and raised in Dallas, Lauren Kent loves her town — although she spent her college life and some years afterward trying to be anywhere else. With her degree in journalism from the University of Texas, Lauren had writing stints in Australia, New York City and Hawaii before she made her way back home to tackle the bourgeoning culture and fashion scene of the Big D. When she’s not covering top events or luxury items for Haute Living, Lauren is taking her Pomeranian Sacsha to White Rock Lake or cheering on the Cowboys at the MAT.

Haute Events: Sleepy and Swanky at Duxiana’s Media Party

It wasn’t hard to relax at Preston Center’s Duxiana boutique on Setember 28th, what with the party atmosphere and oh-so-many luxurious beds available for comfy seating arrangements. The event, hosted by MediaBistro, garnered much attention from Dallas media and social players, who all walked away with a great swag bag worth over $100, complete with a goose down travel pillow (take that, guy who’s hogging the armrest on your nine hour flight.)

Chic Feet: Scarpasa Makes Office Shoes Sexy

It’s that time again: 8:30 in the morning. You’re running late, and you are standing in your closet, helplessly eyeballing your two shoe options that match the killer dress suit you’re donning. On the one hand, you’ve got those sweet Louboutin’s, the ones that make your calves look amazing but also earn you disapproving glances […]

With a Twist: The Top 5 Martini Menus in Dallas

Shaken or stirred, with olives or lemon twist, sweet or savory, martinis haven’t left the swanky drinking scene yet, and they may never. That doesn’t mean you have to keep it classic, although finding a bartender who can make a slightly dirty Kettle One martini with just enough olive juice and cold enough to have icebergs floating on the top is a feat in itself, as any martini drinker can attest to.

Haute Culture: The Uptown Players Debut First American Premiere of the Pet Shop Boys’ “Closer To H...

The Kalita Theatre in Uptown does not brag about its whereabouts. In fact, even if you are an entertainment journalist whose radar should be keen for such locations, you may do a couple U-turns on Turtle Creek before you see the innocuous signage and the path up the hill to the building itself, shrouded in trees.

Fancy Football: Watch the Texas/OU Game in Style

It’s Friday and we here in Dallas are about to see yet another influx of thousands of football fans for the legendary Texas/OU weekend. Even if you don’t watch college football, you can’t help feel the excitement of this event, when two teams, Oklahoma and UT Austin, meet in the middle for their annual head to head. But do you really want to be a part of the fun in some sports bar filled with college kids slamming Jagerbombs? Isn’t there a slightly more upscale way to celebrate this renowned event? Naturally. This is Dallas, after all.

Let’s face it: people who drink scotch are “scotch people.” Cosmo lovers aren’t necessarily “vodka people,” just as Bud Light drinkers aren’t “beer people” (no offense, but, blech.) No, your taste buds have to be particularly deft and discerning to appreciate the nuances of a good scotch, and if that’s you, you know the difference between a real scotch list and a few basics on the premium liquor menu. To that end, here’s a list of some of the best places to get a good Speyside, Dallas side.

Bling It On: Two Ways To Celebrate Jewelry This Week in Dallas

Not that you need an excuse to add to your vast collection of glittering baubles and bells, but a special occasion in the name of jewelry deserves at least a designated half day at work, right? Here’s two ways to celebrate your bling this week in the Big D.

Brewski Time: The Top 5 Beer Lists in Dallas

No matter what time of year it is, there’s always room for a beer. But if special brews had a holiday, it would be Oktoberfest, so it’s no better time to list the Top 5 places in Dallas to get a cold one. Beer me.
