There’s just one more reason to visit Los Angeles: downtown’s The Varnish has been named the Best American Cocktail Bar at the Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards. Founder and owner Cedd Moses accepted the award Saturday in New Orleans, scoring an impressive victory for the City of Angels.

Kirk and Anne Douglas have made a sizable donation to the Motion Picture & Television Fund.Board member and chairman of the MPTF Foundation Jeffrey Katzenberg announced the Douglas’ $20 million donation to the $350 million MPTF Campaign on Monday.

The stars were out to celebrate dance on Saturday night in Los Angeles, though one actress in particular may have been having a wee bit more fun than the rest. Honoree Shirley MacLaine slyly stated that dance was a “vertical expression of horizontal desire, made legitimate by music” in her acceptance speech.

LACMA’s first Art + Film Gala was such a success last fall that Eva Chow and Leonardo DiCaprio have signed on to chair the haute event for a second time. The gala will take place on October 27 and will honor Stanley Kubrick and artist Ed Ruscha, both of whom will have their work exhibited at the museum this fall.

The Dizzy Feet Foundation will still honor Shirley MacLaine and Henry T. Segerstrom at its second annual gala on Saturday evening, but the foundation will be without expected host Katie Holmes. The Dizzy Feet board member was expected to make her first public appearance since splitting from Tom Cruise this weekend, but her rep has confirmed she will not be in attendance at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

The stars of Glee turned up to hear other people make beautiful music on Wednesday night as they attended Billabong’s Design for Humanity benefit in Hollywood. The New York lot at Paramount Studios was transformed into a makeshift block party as Walk the Moon, Imagine Dragons, The Lumineers and The Joy Formidable performed.
