Good News for the South Florida Hotel Industry
With the abundance of national events that have hit our shores just in the past three months alone, a surge in hotel occupancy rates is the least that we would expect. From the Pro Bowl, to Super Bowl, to the Food Network’s South Beach Food & Wine Festival, to Winter Music Conference and FASHIONmiami, there has certainly been a reason for the birds to flock south for the winter.
Miami’s Downtown Tempo
One of our favorite editors is at it again, bringing us the breaking news about the latest haute spot to hit the Magic City. So where is this divine destination that promises to put an end to our quest for an upscale downtown lounge? The actual address is 1100 Biscayne Blvd.
iPads Revolutionize Checking in at the InterContinental
Even if you don’t consider yourself a techie, you’d have to be living under a rock to not know that iPad mania hit retail shelves over the weekend, selling more than 300,000 units in the past two days. But the iPad bug wasn’t limited to Facebook and Twitter fanatics. The obsession over the new gadget even reached folks over at the InterContinental hotel chain as they’re planning on stocking the concierge desks with iPads instead of desktops.
It’s Back: The Nautica South Beach Triathlon Takes Over on April 11
Get your running shoes, swim trunks, and bike pants ready. It’s time for Nautica’s 3rd Annual South Beach Triathlon, and once again, celebrities will be pounding the pavement right along with the rest of the runners. They will battle it out on the scenic landscapes of Miami right alongside trained athletes, corporate teams, and the pros who get paid to sweat for a living.
Terroir Tribeca, Coming Soon?
Ever craved some Riesling from a tap? Terroir on Harrison Street is where it’s at. If that doesn’t suit your fancy, there are plenty of other options, listed out in a three-ring wine binder. Paul Grieco and Marco Canora missed the original opening date of April 1, but no worries, since the grand event is only a week behind schedule.
How Much for a Madison Avenue Townhouse?
Ever dreamed of owning a five-story townhouse on Madison Avenue? Thirty years ago, Gurnee Hart, an esteemed member of the New York Philharmonic’s board, along with his wife Marjorie did. But back in October, their partnership, JR Associates, decided it was time to say goodbye to that little holding, when they went into negotiations with Madison 927.
April is a Fine Time for Wine at the Biltmore
There’s almost nothing that we love more than an excuse to sip down some of the good stuff. What that means is that when we get word of wine tastings and Champagne-soaked events, we’re all ears, or tongues, as the case may be. When we went looking for a reason to indulge in the alcohol, nothing seemed more tempting than the Biltmore Hotel’s calendar of April events. Wine and Champagne and food, oh my!
Rafael Nadal and Richard Mille: A Match Made for Sony Ericsson Heaven
It’s a big weekend here in the Magic City, and not just because we have Easter brunches on the brain. Tennis fans have flooded our shores once again to spectate and celebrate the Sony Ericsson Open on Key Biscayne. We don’t have to impart on you the importance of this annual event, but discussing the importance of today’s match up is something we just can’t avoid. This afternoon, Rafael Nadal and Andy Roddick will meet up in a heated semifinal round, and the 80-degree temperature has nothing to do with the heat that the courts will see. In addition to the thousands of fans cheering on the faves, there are also corporate sponsors who will be watching with vested interests.
VIPs and Miami Celebrities Will Celebrate “Yappy Hour” at Epic
The social season is coming to a close here in Miami, but that doesn’t mean that it’s time to put away your designer duds just yet, as there are still a few more noteworthy cocktail parties on the books for the month of April. There are few things that South Florida “ladies who lunch” love more than pampering their expensive pooches. It is as much a part of our culture as fancy cars on South Beach, Latin music blaring from every corner, and spending more than half of the year, more than half naked on the beach. In an ode to our furry friends, pet authority Wendy Diamond is rolling into town and several of our favorite philanthropists are throwing a party to celebrate her book.
