Jimmy Buffett Beats Out Sylvester Stallone

Certainly the sleepy little town of Hollywood would not be considered one of the hauter places that we boast about here in South Florida, so reporting on the goings-on there is not typically at the top of our agenda. But today’s news involves a multimillion-dollar hotel project, and numbers like that always pique our interests, especially when big name celebrity entrepreneurs are involved.

Happy Anniversary Gen Art Film Festival

Today marks the start of one of our favorite weeks in NYC. It’s time once again for the Gen Art Film Festival presented by Acura, and this one is sure to be big because it marks the 15th anniversary of the cultural event. From now until next Tuesday, April 17, the creative minds who have been defining our zeitgeist since 1996 will deliver on their annual theme of “7 Premieres and 7 Parties,” where the format shows seven feature films and seven shorts from up-and-coming filmmakers, followed by seven after-parties at some of our favorite NY nightspots, like Avenue, SL The Park and Hudson Terrace.

Ali’s “Fight Doctor” Launches Book at El Scorpion

It’s not unusual to wonder what it’s like to know a legend. Well, if you’re Ferdie Pacheco, M.D., you don’t have to wonder—you know. The famous “Fight Doctor” that stood by boxing legend Muhammad Ali’s side (as well as 12 other world champions) is giving us a personal insight as to what it was like to be the man in the corner of the ring in his new book, Tales from the 5th Street Gym, launching tonight at El Scorpion Mexican Kitchen & Tequila Bar

Grand Treasures Await at the New Trump SoHo

It’s going to be one grand weekend in downtown New York; that is, if you’re planning on a va- or staycation at the brand new Trump SoHo New York. The grand opening will be in just two days, on Friday, April 9. In celebration of the big event, the powers that be have just announced a special rate to welcome the very first visitors. How does $389 a night for a guestroom, or $489 for a suite sound?

Haute 100 Miami Update: Al & Shareef Malnik

Our Haute 100 list details the accomplishments of the most influential people in each of our markets—Miami, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Check back daily for more info on the most powerful people in your city. Today’s edition features a father-son duo that rivals Bobby and Barry Bonds (gotta love baseball season): Alvin and Shareef Malnik.

Bauer’s Top 100 Bay Area Restaurants

Looking for a restaurant that will tickle your taste buds? The San Francisco Bay area has plenty to offer. Restaurants are flourishing throughout the region, making it difficult for the area’s leading food critic, Michael Bauer, to choose his top 100 for the San Francisco Chronicle. With new dining venues popping up all around the area, it wasn’t easy for Bauer to choose between old favorites and new hot spots, but a few that made the cut were RN74, Frances, and Flour + Water.

Strauss and Tepperberg Hit Harvard to Talk About the Magic of Marquee

The world of nightlife has always been a bit intriguing, but in recent years, it has certainly started to explode as one of the “it” businesses to be in for the movers and the shakers of NYC’s social scene. With that in mind, if you’re a young gun just starting out, wouldn’t it be wise to perk up and pay attention to the trailblazers of the industry? Hundreds of Harvard students received just such a golden opportunity today when two of our favorite club kings, Noah Tepperberg and Jason Strauss, made the trek over to Boston to share some of their words of wisdom.

Model Beach Volleyball Tourney on South Beach This Weekend

Who cares about watching Tiger on TV this weekend? We’d rather see models on the beach. The 2010 Model Beach Volleyball Tournament will be hosted by some of our favorite Miamians, including Jerry Powers, Rick Delgado, Michael Malone, and Olivia Ormos. And we couldn’t be more excited that our own Haute Living Official DJ, who also lends his talents to the Miami Heat, DJ Irie, will be on hand to make sure that the party doesn’t stop. Nikki Beach is the place to be this weekend (April 10 & 11), whether you are an active participant, or a spectator who prefers to sit back and watch the models do what they do best…play volleyball, of course.

2nd Annual New York Bag Ladies Luncheon

There was once a time when the term “bag lady” implied something less than luxurious. But in recent years, with the rise of the “It bag,” if you’re walking down the streets of Madison Avenue, chances are that being called a bag lady could be one of the ultimate style compliments. The S.L.E. Lupus Foundation has fully embraced this new moniker for fashion mavens and has announced the details for its 2nd annual New York Bag Ladies Luncheon and Celebrity Handbag Auction.
