Haute Event: Fashion Designer William Calvert Receives 2011 Innovator Award from The National Arts Club

On Thursday June 2, The National Arts Club Fashion Committee honored William Calvert of label Callula Lillibelle with the 2011 Innovator Award. Since 2006, the prize has recognized artists in the fashion industry who are intrepidly innovative with their designs. Winners of the award must display “a balance of courage, ambition, and the potential to become a legend in years to come,” says the committee.

Last week, the “Happy 200” festivities crossed the pond with a magical night of bubbles hosted by Susan Sarandon and daughter Eva Amurri. Fashion designer Rachel Roy caused a stir down in Atlanta on May 24, when she served as the honorary chair of Savannah College of Art and Design Atlanta’s SEEN Gala. The benefit is a premier fundraiser for SCAD Atlanta and this year consisted of a VIP reception, a silent auction of original artwork, as well as an exclusive fashion showcase.

It was an illustrious and star-studded soirée. Fashion heavy-hitters of all walks and philanthropists of El Museo del Barrio congregated at Cipriani 42nd Street to celebrate famed fashion photographer Mario Testino by awarding him a lifetime artistic achievement award. Festooned in fantastic couture, 600 guests joined in raising $1,000,000 for what is New York’s leading Latino museum.

Haute Event: Whitney Art Party: “The Groundbreakers” Draws New York’s Biggest and Rowdiest in Fashion and Art

Just when you thought that the New York gala and social scene couldn’t be bested, last week, the Whitney Contemporaries threw its Whitney Art Party: “The Groundbreakers,” at Highline Stages. The event, which followed the nearby groundbreaking for the museum’s eventual Renzo Piano-designed relocation, was piloted by honorary co-chairs—the New York Knicks’ Amar’e Stoudemire (in a sleek Calvin Klein Collection suit), style- empress Shala Monroque, and jewelry king Eddie Borgo. Moët Hennessy and Phillips de Pury lent their generous support for the party.

Big Names in New York Fashion Gather at Savannah College of Art and Design to Honor Manolo Blahnik

This past weekend, Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) once again welcomed editors, socialites, and the fashion obsessed to Georgia for its SCAD StyleLab fashion show— hosting a series of special events. Key affairs included an intimate panel discussion hosted by The New York Times’ Eric Wilson with footwear legend Manolo Blahnik and Vogue contributing editor and member of SCAD’s board of trustees, André Leon Talley; a VIP cocktail reception at the Gutstein Gallery (where an impressive exhibit is on display, chronicling Blahnik’s career); and lastly, SCAD’s annual fashion show, highlighting the collections of the top graduating seniors.

Haute Event: Moby Celebrates New Photography Book and Album, “Destroyed,” at Manhattan’s Clic Gall...

This month, electronic/hip-hop/house superstar producer/artist, Moby, released his ninth album, Destroyed, as well as an extensive book of photography that takes readers behind the scenes of his international tour. The book, published by Damiani/D.A.P, features 128 pages of text and five dozen photographs taken by the artist.

Rain doesn’t deter the young-and-the-restless from strutting to SoHo for a fashionable event. The evening of Wednesday, May 18 was no exception. Through the muggy mist flocked scores of P.Y.T.s to the new HUGO by HUGO BOSS boutique at 132 Greene Street to celebrate the Young Collectors Council of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.
