Rick Caruso Introduces The Miramar Lake Club, His New Private Retreat With the Only 18-Hole Jack Nicklaus Par-3 in the U.S.
Rick Caruso opens Miramar Lake Club, a private golf and social club near Thousand Oaks with a rare Jack Nicklaus par-3 course.
Rick Caruso is taking the Miramar name from the beach to the back nine. The developer behind some of Southern California’s most recognizable shopping and hospitality destinations has unveiled The Miramar Lake Club, a private golf and social club slated to debut in fall 2026 behind the gates of the Sherwood community near Thousand Oaks.

Set in the Santa Monica Mountains, the project brings Caruso’s hospitality sensibility to a setting where the scorecard is only part of the attraction. A Jack Nicklaus–designed golf course anchors the experience, with dining, wellness, poolside afternoons and a full social calendar giving members plenty of reasons to linger after the final hole. And for those whose interest in golf begins and ends with the clubhouse? There’s a plan for them, too.
“The Miramar Lake Club is our vision for where golf is heading; more welcoming, more dynamic, and deeply rooted in experience,” said Rick Caruso, founder and executive chairman of Caruso.

That vision starts with an unusual course. According to Caruso, the club’s 18-hole, par-3 layout is one of only two of its kind designed by Nicklaus worldwide, and the only one in the United States. Each hole draws inspiration from one of his celebrated courses around the globe, bringing elements of the golf legend’s international portfolio into a single Southern California address.
The appeal extends across ability levels. Newer players will find an approachable introduction to the game, while experienced golfers will have enough strategic challenges to keep things interesting. The shorter format also fits a club conceived around a broader day out: a round can share the agenda with lunch, a workout or an afternoon by the pool.

An 18,000-square-foot clubhouse will serve as the social center, supported by a culinary program that includes a planned signature restaurant with an award-winning chef. The chef and restaurant concept remain under wraps, with further details expected in the coming months.
Elsewhere, plans call for a resort-style pool, fitness and training facilities, wellness amenities and a curated calendar of social events. Taken together, the offerings suggest a place members can make part of their regular routines, whether they arrive with golf clubs, a gym bag or dinner reservations.

“This is an opportunity to bring a new level of hospitality, design, and community to the game,” Caruso said.
The project follows The Miramar Beach Club in Montecito, extending Caruso’s private club portfolio from an oceanfront setting to a lakeside one. The connection is deliberate: attentive service, considered design and a strong sense of place remain central to the Miramar proposition, even as the scenery—and the preferred footwear—changes.
For Caruso, The Miramar Lake Club is a new expression of a familiar approach: create a destination people want to return to, then give them multiple reasons to stay. Nicklaus may be responsible for the course, but Caruso is making sure the rest of the day gets equal billing.
