Straker’s Arrives in New York: Inside the London Chef’s First Restaurant Outside the U.K.

London’s Straker’s has crossed the Atlantic. Thomas Straker, the chef behind the Notting Hill favorite and a six-million-strong following across his platforms, opened Straker’s at 59 Grand Street in Soho on October 10, 2026—in the former home of Keith McNally’s Lucky Strike. It’s the restaurant’s first location outside London.

The move is a personal one. Straker was born in the United States and raised on a farm in Herefordshire, England, and he’s long wanted to bring his cooking stateside. “Moving to New York is a massive move for the brand, Straker’s,” said Straker. “It’s something that I’ve thought about for a long time, and I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure that this restaurant is a success and people have the best night of their lives when they come and eat with us.”

Post Company, the studio led by Ruben Caldwell, Jou-Yie Chou and Leigh Salem, reworked the Soho institution as a brighter neighborhood restaurant. A steel-clad open kitchen with green stone counters anchors the room; up front, the bar and low vegetable-tanned leather banquettes look straight into it, while the back dining room, in white tablecloths, handles dinners, events and larger groups. Works by Keith Haring, Damien Hirst, Brian Clarke and Jake Clark hang throughout, and the bathrooms are wrapped in floor-to-ceiling marble and mirrors.

The seasonal menu is cooked over wood fire and in a wood-fired oven. Start with Lucky Lime Oysters with vinaigrette, a Red Shrimp and Foie Gras Tostada, Bluefin Tuna Belly Carpaccio and langoustines with gremolata and brown butter. The flatbreads come topped with girolles, taleggio and basil, or with mussels and chili butter — the London signature that made his name.

Pastas include agnolotti with ricotta and burnt tomato butter and tagliolini with clams, garlic and chili. From the grill and wood oven come wood-roasted grouper with salsa verde, wood-roasted Dover sole with herb and lemon butter and a grilled T-bone with beef sauce. The wine list is built to match, with Krug by the glass among the Champagnes.

Straker’s food business has grown well beyond the dining room. His viral All Things Butter series became All Things, a dairy brand stocked in more than 15,000 stores across the U.K. and UAE, and in London Straker’s has since been joined by ACRE and Straker’s Dining Room. Soho is the biggest test yet, and the wood-fired menu looks ready for it.

Straker’s, 59 Grand Street, New York, NY 10013; open daily 12–3 p.m. and 5–11 p.m.
