Haute Event: Martha Stewart and Harry Slatkin’s Joint Birthday Celebration

News | August 26, 2010

On Aug. 20, Martha Stewart and her good friend, home fragrance entrepreneur Harry Slatkin, celebrated their birthdays together outside on the sand at Navy Beach, a new nautical themed restaurant on Fort Pond Bay in Montauk.  The Leos turned 69 and 50, respectively, though neither looked anywhere near their ages!

Stewart explains how the two decided to throw the event. “We came here for dinner together a few weeks ago…and we looked around and just said, ‘Wouldn’t this be a great place to have a birthday?’ And so we started planning. We’ve never had a joint birthday before, but it seemed like a fun thing to do,” Stewart said.

A live band performed for the large group of guests, and Slatkin’s wife, Laura, and brother, Howard, made speeches.

Attendees included J. Crew’s Mickey Drexler, Mario Grauso of Vera Wang, Reed Krakoff of Coach, photographer Bruce Weber, W Magazine’s new editor Stefano Tonchi, and former W Magazine creative director Dennis Freedman. The menu was a chic take on American comfort food that included buttermilk fried chicken, truffle macaroni and cheese and parmesan French fries. For dessert, guests enjoyed a decadent layered chocolate cake.
