Everything That Mattered at Tales of the Cocktail 2026

Haute Drinks, Haute Wine + Spirits | July 31, 2026

Every July, the global drinks industry descends on New Orleans for the one week that truly matters. Tales of the Cocktail isn’t just another cocktail festival — it’s where the world’s biggest spirits brands, most influential bartenders, top buyers, educators, and media converge to shape what comes next. Product launches debut here before they appear on back bars around the world, immersive brand experiences compete as fiercely as the cocktails themselves, and conversations around sustainability, hospitality, and the future of the industry carry just as much weight as the pours. By week’s end, the Spirited Awards have crowned the year’s best bars and talent, cementing Tales as the closest thing the bar world has to the Oscars. If you want to understand where cocktail culture is headed, this is where the story begins. This is the story that was told this year.

The Spirited Awards: Cocktail Culture’s Biggest Night

If there is one event that defines Tales of the Cocktail, it’s the Spirited Awards. Widely regarded as the Oscars of the global bar industry, the annual ceremony recognizes the people, places and products shaping cocktail culture around the world—and taking home one of its coveted trophies remains one of hospitality’s highest honors. This year marked a milestone, celebrating the awards’ 20th anniversary during Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans, where the industry’s biggest names gathered under the conference’s 2026 theme, Spark. Judged by a panel of more than 250 international experts and chaired by Tiffanie Barriere and Ryan Chetiyawardana, the awards honored the bartenders, bars, writers, educators and visionaries pushing the industry forward while recognizing the icons whose influence continues to shape it.

The evening belonged to an exceptionally diverse group of winners representing every corner of the cocktail world. Yayo Nava of Bar Mauro in Mexico City was named International Bartender of the Year, while New York’s Takuma Watanabe, whose portfolio includes Martiny’s, L’Americana and Midnight Blue, earned the title of U.S. Bartender of the Year. Hong Kong continued its reign as one of the world’s cocktail capitals, with Bar Leone taking home Best International Bar Team and ARGO at Four Seasons Hong Kong recognized as Best International Hotel Bar. London’s Satan’s Whiskers was named Best International Cocktail Bar, while Singapore’s FURA capped off an extraordinary year by earning both Best International Restaurant Bar and the night’s highest distinction, World’s Best Bar.

The U.S. winners reflected just how strong the American cocktail scene has become. Washington, D.C.’s Service Bar was recognized as Best U.S. Bar Team, New York newcomer schmuck. earned Best New U.S. Cocktail Bar, and Bar Snack was named Best U.S. Cocktail Bar. Miami also had reason to celebrate, with ViceVersa at The Elser Hotel taking home Best U.S. Hotel Bar—another sign that the city’s cocktail scene continues to command national attention.

Beyond the bars themselves, the Spirited Awards also celebrated the people shaping cocktail culture. Legendary drinks historian David Wondrich received the Helen David Lifetime Achievement Award, while Jean Trinh was honored with the Tales Visionary Award. Excellence in drinks journalism was also recognized, with Imbibe named Best Cocktail & Spirits Publication, Rich Manning winning Best Cocktail & Spirits Writing for his VinePair feature on neurodivergent bartenders, and Irene Yoo taking home Best New Cocktail or Bartending Book for Soju Party.

Twenty years in, the Spirited Awards have become much more than an awards ceremony—they’re a snapshot of where cocktail culture is today and where it’s headed next. As the lights came up inside The Fillmore and winners carried their trophies into the New Orleans night, one thing was clear: the global bar community has never been more innovative, collaborative or exciting (and not just because  Lorenzo Querci and his team at Moebius transported their homemade lasagna from Milan for the event).

Make It With Martell

Make It With Martell

While plenty of brands showed up to pour drinks during Tales, Martell came to tell a story. Held at Pernod Ricard’s House of Conviviality, the invite-only Make It With Martell activation celebrated New Orleans’ deep-rooted connection to Cognac while looking squarely at where the category is headed next. As part of the house’s year-long U.S. tour, the afternoon brought together music, cocktails and culture in a way that felt distinctly local, reminding guests that New Orleans has long been one of Cognac’s most important American homes.

Curated by Brian Freeman of Cadillac Chronicles, the experience unfolded around a restored 1974 Cadillac Eldorado, with the soundtrack moving from jazz to hip-hop and finally Afrobeats. Behind the bar, Marcio Ramon and Thandi Walton showcased Martell VS and Blue Swift, while U.S. ambassador Jasmin Goldstein and global partner Rémy Savage gave guests a closer look at the house’s sediment-free distillation process and why it matters in the glass.

What made the afternoon memorable was the way Martell tied together history, music and hospitality without letting any one element overpower the others. It was smart, culturally grounded and one of the clearest examples all week of a brand understanding that a good activation should leave you with more than a drink.

DIAGEO House of Blues Takeover

For three straight nights, DIAGEO turned the House of Blues into one of the week’s most reliable destinations. Rather than building the experience around a single label, the company used the venue to showcase the depth of its whisky portfolio through a run of tastings, dinners, live entertainment and late-night programming that changed from one evening to the next.

That scale mattered. Tales can feel fragmented, with people constantly moving from one invitation to another, but the House of Blues gave the week a kind of center of gravity. You could arrive for a serious whisky moment and stay because half the industry had eventually made its way into the same room. It became one of those places where the formal programming gave way to the conversations that actually make Tales valuable.

The takeover also gave DIAGEO the space to show range without turning the experience into a trade-show floor. Each night had its own rhythm, but the overall effect was consistent: strong pours, a packed room and the sense that this was one of the places you needed to be.

William Grant & Sons: Art of the Cocktail

Some events become part of the fabric of Tales, and William Grant & Sons’ Art of the Cocktail is one of them. Held at the Orpheum Theater, the annual event once again brought the company’s portfolio together under one roof, giving guests the chance to move through a series of bars, serves and experiences without the evening ever feeling static.

What makes Art of the Cocktail work is that it operates as both showcase and reunion. The drinks matter, of course, but so does the room itself: bartenders, brand ambassadors, writers and longtime industry figures all crossing paths in a setting that feels celebratory without losing sight of the spirits at the center of it.

In a week full of new concepts, Art of the Cocktail remains a reminder that consistency can be its own kind of luxury. William Grant & Sons knows what this event is, why people return to it and how to keep it feeling important year after year.

iichiko Shochu’s Jewel of Japan Takeover at Jewel of the South

If there was one place where the global cocktail community truly converged during Tales, it was Jewel of the South, where iichiko Shochu brought its Jewel of Japan guest-shift series to one of New Orleans’ most celebrated bars. Across the day, a remarkable lineup stepped behind the stick, including Hiroyasu Kayama, Takuma Watanabe, Monica Berg, Leo Robitschek, Shingo Gokan, Julia Momosé, Kenta Goto, Ian McPherson and Simone Caporale.

The cocktails showcased different expressions from the iichiko portfolio, giving guests a much broader look at shochu than many had likely experienced before. That was what made the activation work: the names drew the crowd, but the spirit remained the story. In the hands of some of the world’s best bartenders, iichiko proved remarkably versatile, moving from restrained, precise serves to more expressive cocktails without losing its identity.

Jewel of the South was the right setting. Intimate enough to feel personal but important enough to command attention, it became the kind of Tales stop where one drink turned into several and the person beside you was just as likely to be a world-famous bartender as the one making your cocktail.

Citadelle Gin Trois Bisous

Some of the most interesting pours at Tales are the ones no one outside the room has tried yet. At Maison Métier, Citadelle Gin gave guests an early look at its new zero-proof expression, set to launch this fall. I was among the first people in the world to taste it, and the most impressive thing was not simply that it was alcohol-free, but that it still carried the botanical structure, brightness and complexity that define the house.

That first taste gave the event a real sense of discovery. Citadelle did not need a massive production around it. The point was the liquid, the access and the chance to understand where the brand is going next. In a category that has too often treated zero-proof spirits as an afterthought, this felt far more considered.

The setting helped. Maison Métier offered the kind of quieter, more intimate backdrop that allowed guests to actually pay attention, speak with the team and taste thoughtfully. During a week known for spectacle, Citadelle proved that being first to something genuinely good can be more memorable than being at the loudest party.

Oban & Lagavulin Farm-to-Table Dinner

VIP whisky lovers gravitated to one of the week’s most elegant dinners as Oban and Lagavulin celebrated two of Scotland’s most iconic single malts. Beginning with a cocktail reception before transitioning into a thoughtfully paired farm-to-table feast, the evening showcased everything from signature serves to neat pours while Luxury Whisky Ambassadors Ewan Morgan and Greg King guided guests through the distinct personalities of the Highland and Islay distilleries. Equal parts education and indulgence, it was a reminder that some of Tales’ most memorable experiences happen around the dinner table, not just behind the bar.

Tales of the Women with Mijenta Tequila

One of the week’s most meaningful gatherings came courtesy of Mijenta Tequila, Amaro Lucano, and Altamura Vodka, whose Tales of the Women celebrated the women shaping modern cocktail culture. Held at the Roosevelt’s iconic Sazerac Bar, the evening brought together an all-star lineup of bartenders and hospitality leaders from Florence, Rome, Mexico City, New York, San Diego, Detroit, and beyond, including Miguel Angel Sanchez Borrego of the Hilton Hotel Group, proving that some of the industry’s most exciting voices are also among its most collaborative.

Ford’s Gin: London Dry Radio // 86 FM

Ford’s Gin had one of the hottest tickets of the week, and the reason was standing behind the DJ booth. Erykah Badu took over the decks at The Josephine for London Dry Radio // 86 FM, turning the night into the kind of party people were talking about before they even knew whether they could get in.

The music gave the event its headline, but the cocktails held their own. Ford’s London Dry Gin anchored a menu built for a long night, with drinks that were clean, unfussy and easy to return to as the room filled. The balance was exactly right: serious enough for the drinks crowd, loose enough to feel like an actual party.

What made it work was that it never felt like a celebrity appearance awkwardly attached to a brand event. The energy was organic, the crowd was right and Badu’s set gave the evening a personality all its own. At Tales, where invitations come by the hour, Ford’s created one of those rare nights people genuinely regretted missing.

Jameson Presents: The Dead Hares Club

Jameson brought a little bit of Ireland to New Orleans with The Dead Hares Club, a lively collaboration with the team behind New York’s legendary Dead Rabbit. Hosted at Sportsman’s Club, the evening blended Irish hospitality with New Orleans charm, creating one of the week’s most approachable—and busiest—late-night gatherings.

The cocktails celebrated Jameson’s versatility beyond the expected whiskey serve, while the atmosphere encouraged exactly what the brand has always done best: bringing people together. It wasn’t trying to be the most elaborate activation of the week, but it didn’t need to be. Sometimes a packed bar, excellent drinks and genuine hospitality are more than enough.

1800 Tequila’s Taste Collective

1800 Tequila took a more cerebral approach with The Taste Collective, inviting guests to discover their own flavor archetype through interactive tasting workshops led by Ignacio “Nacho” Jimenez of Superbueno and Dr. Arielle Johnson. Equal parts science experiment and cocktail masterclass, it was one of the week’s most genuinely educational activations. The experience, held at Latrobe’s, also offered an exclusive, innovative crossover cocktail experience courtesy of CDMX’s Handshake Speakeasy and Superbueno, dubbed “Supershake!”

PATRÓN’s Cocktail Parlor & Creamery

No Tales week feels complete without at least one afternoon by the pool, and PATRÓN once again delivered one of the festival’s most anticipated daytime escapes. Set against the backdrop of New Orleans’ summer heat, guests cooled off with tequila-forward cocktails before making their way to a series of personalization stations, where everything from hats to keepsakes could be customized, adding a playful touch that kept people lingering long after their first drink. The one-day Cocktail Parlor & Creamery paired additive-free tequila cocktails with inventive ice cream flavors inspired by ingredients you’ll never find in the bottle, while acclaimed bartenders Lucas Assis and Saeed “Hawk” House reminded guests that great tequila doesn’t need a secret recipe.

The Wunderbar World of Monkey 47

Monkey 47 brought one of Madrid’s most celebrated cocktail destinations to New Orleans with a guest takeover from Salmon Guru, led by Vicente Gutiérrez. Equal parts theatrical and technically flawless, the cocktails showcased the playful creativity that has made the bar a fixture on the World’s 50 Best Bars list, while highlighting the botanical complexity and versatility of the cult-favorite Black Forest gin.

SHĀNG Whiskey’s Dumplings ‘n Dranks

Not every standout event at Tales came with a DJ or a sprawling activation. One of the week’s best-kept secrets was SHĀNG Whiskey’s intimate “Dumplings ‘n Dranks” dinner at Miss Shirley’s Chinese Restaurant, where a select group of guests got the first taste of what may be one of the industry’s most intriguing new categories. Pairing elevated Chinese cuisine with SHĀNG’s inaugural jiàngxiāng whiskeys—a cross-cultural marriage of traditional Chinese baijiu and American whiskey craftsmanship—the evening felt refreshingly different from the week’s larger spectacles. It was thoughtful, unexpected, and exactly the kind of insider experience that reminds you Tales isn’t just about what’s loudest—it’s about what’s next.

Château Turkey & The Wolf x ABSOLUT® & TABASCO™

Few collaborations captured New Orleans quite like Château Turkey & The Wolf. ABSOLUT® Vodka and TABASCO™ joined forces with one of the city’s most beloved restaurants for a three-day takeover that celebrated two of the Crescent City’s greatest loves: exceptional food and Bloody Marys.

The activation extended well beyond a typical brunch, bringing together chefs and bartenders from eight acclaimed bars and restaurants—including Michelin-recognized and World’s 50 Best establishments—to reinterpret classic brunch cocktails throughout the weekend. It was playful without feeling gimmicky, rooted in New Orleans while welcoming influences from around the world. At a festival known for late nights, Château Turkey & The Wolf gave everyone a very good reason to get up early.

Pernod Ricard’s House of Conviviality

If there was one place you could spend an entire afternoon without leaving, it was Pernod Ricard’s House of Conviviality. The sprawling takeover packed multiple experiences under one roof, from Absolut x Kahlúa espresso martinis and Altos Tequileria guest shifts to Jefferson’s Bourbon’s smoke-filled BOUR-B-Q with cult Texas barbecue institution la Barbecue. It perfectly captured what Tales does best: bringing together great drinks, great food, and even better hospitality.

The Grand Concourse by Marriott International

Marriott International proved hotel bars are having a major moment with The Grand Concourse, an immersive experience that transformed the Ritz-Carlton’s Davenport Lounge into a glamorous old-world travel terminal. Rather than a traditional pop-up, guests wandered through theatrical cocktail moments celebrating Marriott’s rising beverage talent and innovative approach to hospitality. Special guests were treated to a sensory “tasting course” experience courtesy of Gold Bar at The EDITION Hotel, Tokyo.

Suntory Global Spirits Resonance

Suntory Global Spirits’ Resonance: Suntory Global Spirits delivered one of the week’s most ambitious immersive experiences with Resonance, blending sensory storytelling, art, music, and exceptional cocktails into a transportive journey. Anchored by industry icons including Mr Lyan, Kumiko, Bar Loma, and Service Bar, the experience blurred the line between cocktail event and interactive installation, while the invite-only Resonance: Elevated offered an even more intimate VIP interpretation.Japanese hospitality was on full display during Suntory Sessions, where guests were treated to beautifully executed cocktails from visiting bartenders who had traveled from some of the House of Suntory’s most celebrated bars—including London’s Ryan Chetiyawardana, better known throughout the cocktail world as Mr Lyan.

A Seven Star Dining Experience Event With Emeril’s on Resy

One of the week’s most coveted tickets, the inaugural Passport Dinner Series brought together an extraordinary lineup of culinary and cocktail talent for a one-night-only collaboration at Emeril’s. Hosted during Tales of the Cocktail in partnership with Meta, the dinner united Chef E.J. Lagasse, Chef Enrique Olvera of Mexico City’s Pujol, Chef Val Cantu of San Francisco’s Californios, and the team behind Handshake Speakeasy—one of the world’s most celebrated cocktail bars. The result was a multi-course menu paired with bespoke cocktails showcasing Reserva de la Familia by Jose Cuervo, created exclusively for the evening. It’s rare enough to dine at any one of these destinations; having them all under one roof made this one of the defining culinary experiences of Tales.

Grey Goose Post–Spirited Awards Celebration

When the Spirited Awards end, the night is far from over. Grey Goose hosted the official post-awards celebration, welcoming winners, nominees and industry leaders for what has become one of the most coveted invitations of the week.

The mood was understandably celebratory. Award winners toasted one another, longtime friends reunited and conversations that had begun inside the ceremony continued well into the night over expertly crafted vodka cocktails. It felt less like another branded event and more like the cocktail industry’s after-party—an opportunity for everyone who had spent the week working, judging, presenting and celebrating to finally relax together.

And there’s more…

World Class & The Afties

As the Spirited Awards came to a close, the celebrations were just getting started. World Class toasted newly crowned U.S. champion Alexis Ortega alongside past competitors and industry legends before bartenders made their annual pilgrimage to The Afties, BACARDÍ USA’s unofficial closing party. Equal parts reunion and release valve, it remains the industry’s favorite way to toast another unforgettable Tales.

Altos Tequileria

Altos Tequileria transformed New Orleans into a colorful celebration of Mexican hospitality, complete with vibrant street art, a roaming cocktail truck and a steady lineup of acclaimed guest bartenders. Throughout the week, talents from Ross Simon, Jillian Vose, Javier Quintero and teams from Bitter & Twisted, No Smoking, Otto’s High Dive and El Malo rotated behind the bar, proving that great tequila doesn’t need an elaborate presentation to make an impression. The relaxed atmosphere made it one of the easiest places to drop in for a quick drink that inevitably turned into a much longer stay.

CHINOLA: Tropical AF

There may have been several pool parties throughout the week, but CHINOLA’s tropical escape brought a welcome burst of Caribbean flavor to the New Orleans heat. Bright passion fruit cocktails, upbeat music and an easygoing crowd made it one of the festival’s most refreshing daytime stops. Sometimes the simplest formula works best, and CHINOLA leaned into exactly that.

Diplomatico Mercadito at Miss River

Hospitality took center stage at Diplomático Mercadito, where Four Seasons New Orleans welcomed acclaimed bars including Virtù (Tokyo), Fifty Mils (Mexico City), Bandista (Houston), and Miami newcomer Séptimo for an evening celebrating craftsmanship, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas that makes Tales unlike any other cocktail festival.

Gin Mare Aperitivo

Gin Mare brought a taste of the Mediterranean to the French Quarter with an elegant aperitivo hosted by Giorgio Bargiani of London’s legendary Connaught Bar. Dirty Maretinis, spritzes, and effortless European charm made it one of the week’s most civilized happy hours.

A Night to Disremember with Eric Andre

Celebrity spirits are everywhere, but Eric André’s introduction of RADRUM somehow managed to feel authentically weird—in the best possible way. Held at Domino Lounge under the delightfully absurd title A Night to Dismember, the launch combined André’s signature chaos with serious rum, making it one of the week’s most talked-about late-night gatherings.

Jefferson’s BOUR-B-Q

Few pairings are more satisfying than bourbon and barbecue, and Jefferson’s once again proved why its annual BOUR-B-Q has become a Tales favorite. Held in partnership with Austin’s celebrated la Barbecue, the afternoon paired smoked meats with thoughtfully selected pours while Tammy Bouma, Siddalee Lewis, Jennava Walker and Haley Traub helped bring the experience to life. Equal parts feast and whiskey celebration, it was impossible to leave hungry—or disappointed.

Del Maguey 30th Anniversary

Thirty years after helping introduce artisanal mezcal to American drinkers, Del Maguey celebrated its milestone in the place where so much of the cocktail industry comes together each year. Friends of the brand, bartenders and longtime supporters gathered to toast three decades of craftsmanship, innovation and advocacy, making the anniversary feel less like a corporate celebration and more like a family reunion.

Planteray Pool Club

Planteray Rum embraced the New Orleans heat with a poolside party built around tropical cocktails, laid-back hospitality and plenty of island-inspired energy. It offered exactly the kind of mid-afternoon reset Tales attendees often need before another marathon evening of events.

Rémy Cointreau Happy Hour

Not every memorable event needs elaborate production. Rémy Cointreau’s happy hour provided a relaxed setting for guests to enjoy the company’s celebrated portfolio while catching up with friends and colleagues between appointments. Simple, welcoming and consistently well attended, it proved that sometimes a perfectly made cocktail is all the entertainment you need.

Cuervo Listening Lounge

José Cuervo slowed the pace with its Listening Lounge, creating an intimate space where thoughtfully selected music and expertly mixed tequila cocktails shared equal billing. It felt refreshingly different from the week’s louder celebrations, inviting guests to settle in rather than rush to the next event.

Bulleit Double Dealer

Bulleit added a little friendly competition to Tales with Double Dealer, an activation that blended bourbon cocktails with interactive gaming and plenty of spirited banter. Equal parts playful and polished, it became one of the week’s more entertaining late-night stops.

Jack Daniel’s Jack2K

Every year, one party dominates the group chat, and this year it was Jack Daniel’s Jack2K. Reimagining the early 2000s with over-the-top production, throwback nostalgia, a surprise musical headliner, and plenty of Tennessee whiskey-fueled cocktails, the invitation-only bash transformed The Fillmore into the week’s biggest dance party. Few brands understand how to throw an unforgettable party quite like Jack.

Neon Nights

When the sun went down, Neon Nights lit things back up. Glowing installations, energetic music, and colorful cocktails created an atmosphere that captured the celebratory spirit of Tales at its liveliest. It was a fitting way to close another unforgettable week in New Orleans, reminding everyone that at Tales of the Cocktail, the best conversations often happen long after midnight.
