Seafood Extraordinaire at Blue Point Coastal Cuisine

News | August 20, 2010

If you’re in San Diego, odds are you want to try some seafood, and one of the first places you’re going to be sent to is Blue Point Coastal Cuisine in your quest for great seaside tastes, and chances are you’ll stop your search here.  To put it in one word, the food here is divine. Right on the corner of trendy and trendiest in downtown Gaslamp, you’ll find this oasis of food and an abundance of class. Blue Point isn’t only going to serve you fantastic food, it’s going to serve it with an attitude even Haute finds impressive.

Boasting all kinds of awards in the last decade, including everything from Favorite Wine List and Best Downtown Restaurant, it’s not surprising that this venue is dishing up the amazing goods, but the presentation and ambience are still very unexpected, as you glide into their big leather booths. The decor of the restaurant is a throwback to classier times, but not in an obvious, or campy way.  Instead of plastering pictures of Sinatra on the wall, you feel like this is the kind of place Sinatra would go to eat. With their understated supper club vibe and faint Cole Porter tunes playing in the background, you already like the place once you’re seated.

Chef Jonathan Hale heads up this incredible menu, coming from a rich history of  experience leading restaurants everywhere from Hawaii to Colorado, and settling now in San Diego. Coming from a background rich in seafood, it’s no wonder that upon opening, Blue Point Coastal Cuisine won awards from the Gaslamp Quarter Association for Best Seafood. With dishes ever-changing and evolving always including fresh seafood, in-season vegetables and an array of creative infusions and selections, this food is phenomenal. The cold seafood sampler complete with oysters and crab legs, the perfectly served scallops, and the impossible-to-choose main courses from steak to salmon, it all comes out even better than you’re imagining. This is a great place to take guests who want to experience seafood in the seaside city, and an even better place to take neighbors that think they have seen it all here.

Insider Tip: The stuffed French toast dessert with blueberries a la mode is to die for! Oozing with deliciousness and decadence, this is the time to forget about your weight loss goals, some things just taste better than your waistline looks!
