How Twin Sisters Elizabeth and Katherine Rosbottom Are Redefining Modern Couture

Since launching, the brand has quietly built momentum—with what the sisters describe as sixfold growth, a three-month waiting list, and clients who return season after season. Each gown is made in New York from hand-sourced European fabrics, designed to move with the rhythm of a woman’s life. “Luxury today is not about excess—it’s about expression,” says Katherine. That idea defines everything they do—pieces meant to be worn, lived in, and remembered.

What started as a shared creative outlet between sisters has evolved into one of New York’s most interesting couture stories. Below, the Rosbottoms talk about the moment that sparked Jumelle, the meaning behind their name, and what timelessness means to them now.

Haute Living: You both had incredibly accomplished individual careers before launching Jumelle Collection. What was the moment you knew it was time to merge your creative and business talents?

Katherine Rosbottom: After years of success in our own worlds, we both reached a point where we wanted something more personal and enduring—something that reflected our shared aesthetic and values. Elizabeth had been designing my wardrobe for years, and women would constantly stop me at events or in airports asking where my dresses were from. I even sold a few off my back! One night in Paris, over cocktails at Bar Ambassador, after being stopped several times about what would later become our Antibes Dress, we looked at each other and just knew. That night, Jumelle was born.

Elizabeth Rosbottom: I’ve spent over 20 years designing collections for other fashion houses, so creating my own label was always the goal. The turning point came when the custom pieces I made for myself, my sister, and friends started selling—literally—off our backs. Katherine’s background in luxury real estate and client relations made her the perfect partner. That same evening in Paris, we decided it was time to combine our strengths and build something of our own.

Haute Living: Jumelle L’Appartement feels like an extension of your aesthetic. How did the idea for such an intimate, highly curated space come about?

Katherine: We wanted our clients to experience luxury the way it used to be—personal, emotional, and completely private. Jumelle L’Appartement offers the intimacy and attention one might find in Europe’s finest couture salons. Every detail was considered—from the hand-painted secret garden mural in the cocktail lounge to the soft palette of pinks and blues that carry throughout. It’s where we can host fittings, toast new collections, and celebrate our clients in a way that feels deeply personal.

Elizabeth: We envisioned it as a sanctuary for our clients—somewhere to explore fabrics, envision custom designs, and sip champagne while being completely immersed in the world of Jumelle. Every experience is bespoke, every detail intentional. It’s not just about a dress; it’s about a feeling.

Haute Living: The name Jumelle means “twin” in French. Beyond your sisterhood, what does it represent?

Katherine: For us, Jumelle symbolizes duality—creativity and business, strength and softness, tradition and modernity. It’s about two perspectives in perfect balance. We’ve spent much of our lives in France, so the name felt inevitable. It captures our bond and the spirit of the brand.

Elizabeth: We wanted something timeless and lyrical—something that reflects both who we are and what we create. Jumelle embodies unity, refinement, and elegance. It’s sophisticated but deeply personal.

Haute Living: Your pieces strike a romantic yet modern balance. Where do you draw your inspiration?

Elizabeth: It always begins with fabric. Texture, color, and craftsmanship drive the process. Once I find the perfect textile, the silhouette naturally unfolds. I’m endlessly inspired by vintage couture from the 1940s through the 1960s—the draping, embellishment, and femininity of that era. Every gown we create is about celebrating a woman’s individuality and making her feel luminous.

Katherine: Elizabeth has an incredible eye for detail and texture. Her ability to translate art, architecture, and travel into wearable beauty defines the Jumelle aesthetic.

Haute Living: You’ve described your vision as “pushing the boundaries of what couture can be in the 21st century.” What does modern couture mean to you?

Katherine: Modern couture is about emotion and individuality. It’s not just the stitching or structure—it’s how a piece moves with a woman’s life. Luxury today isn’t about excess; it’s about expression.

Elizabeth: For me, modern couture is defined by craftsmanship and intimacy. Every Jumelle piece is hand-cut, hand-sewn, and made from the world’s finest European fabrics. True luxury lies in that level of artistry and the connection it creates between designer and client.

Katherine: Timelessness is restraint and intention. It’s about creating pieces that whisper rather than shout—styles that endure because they’re made with emotion, not trend.
