February in New York does not play nice, especially this year. It’s the kind of cold that cuts through a chic outfit in seconds, and makes you rethink every styling choice the minute you step outside. But, fashion week doesn’t stop on behalf of the elements. Appointments are early, venues are scattered, and you are on your feet more than you think.
When I plan my NYFW wardrobe, warmth is not optional. Still, I refuse to sacrifice style for practicality. The goal is pieces that feel polished yet protective, items that can withstand bitter wind, freezing sidewalks, and full days of back to back shows. Think bold outerwear, statement winter accessories that double as insulation, substantial boots, and bags big enough to carry the extra layers you will inevitably peel off once inside.
These are the pieces I am actually wearing this February. Chic enough for the front row and functional enough for a city that feels like it is permanently below freezing.
A belted down coat is my NYFW armor, and this one does not compromise. It is insulating enough for February in New York, but the exaggerated sleeves and plush trim give it the kind of impact that photographs beautifully outside of the shows.
I always build my looks from the ground up, and this knee high boot anchors everything. The supple leather hugs the leg for a clean line under skirts and coats, while the chunky sole handles cobblestones, slush, and long days on my feet without sacrificing polish.
Long leather gloves bring the drama while actually keeping me warm. They peek out from under oversized sleeves and instantly elevate even the simplest silhouette.
A statement coat gets you photographed, but a great tote gets you through the day. I always opt for something oversized and structured enough to carry the real necessities, extra layers, portable chargers, makeup touch ups, that come with a packed schedule.
In the middle of winter, a pop of color changes everything. When coats and boots lean neutral, I rely on accessories to do the talking. Never underestimate the power of a scarf. The right saturated hue and rich texture can shift the entire mood of a look, adding warmth, dimension, and just enough shine to make it feel styled instead of simply layered for survival.
There is something undeniably New York about a shearling hat. It is a bit dramatic, a little uptown, a little downtown, and instantly makes winter dressing feel more glamorous.
You cannot attend fashion week without an oversized pair of sunglasses. They are equal parts shield and statement, adding instant polish while giving you a moment of anonymity between shows.
I love a coat that works twice as hard, and this reversible shearling does exactly that. Plush fur on one side, smooth suede on the other, it gives you two distinct moods in one silhouette. The relaxed shape is signature Kallmeyer, defining a cool, effortless New York way of dressing.
These The Row zippered ankle boots have become a cult classic for good reason. The silhouette is polished and grounded, yet practical enough to take me from early morning presentations in Tribeca to late afternoon appointments on the Upper East Side.
I love mixing proportions. After dramatic outerwear and bold accessories, a sleeker sunglass feels sharp and controlled. The subtle tint gives it personality without overwhelming the look.
If anyone can make a puffer feel refined, it is Alaïa. The proportions are controlled, the waist is defined, and the result is flattering without sacrificing warmth.
For NYFW, I need a bag that works as hard as I do. This suede bucket fits the schedule, laptop, charger, and everything in between, while still feeling polished on the shoulder.
Downtown by name, downtown by attitude. The elongated toe keeps it sharp, the shearling softens it, and the whole thing feels perfectly at home on a New York sidewalk.
