News | August 17, 2010

Our Haute 100 list details the accomplishments of the most influential people in each of our markets—Miami, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. These people continue to make moves, so rather than waiting for the next Haute 100 issue to come out, we thought we’d provide you with regular updates on those Haute 100 members who are making headlines. Edward Roski is remaining faithful to his goal of bringing a NFL team to Southern California and building a modern stadium to house his dream team.

Edward Roski Jr.

Category: Billionaires

Company: Real Estate

Industry: Majestic Reality Co.

What Made Him Haute: Roski owns more than 73 million square feet of commercial property from Los Angeles to Atlanta, as well as minor parts of the L.A. Lakers and hockey’s L.A. Kings. The noted risk taker, who will attack anything from Mount Everest to the Titanic wreckage, is also an avid philanthropist. He donated $23 million to his alma mater USC in 2006 to fund a fine arts school. He serves on board for a number of local organizations, museums, and science centers.

What Makes Him Haute Now: While there have been delays along the way, Roski has not given up on his dream of bringing a NFL team to the Los Angeles area. His proposed $800 million, 75,000-seat stadium was approved for construction, but a holdup in signing a new labor deal with the player’s union has blocked progress and has allowed time for rival stadium plans to emerge. However, Roski remains positive saying, “Our target is yesterday…it will happen.” He wants to build the stadium on a 600-acre plot of land in the city of Industry, which is 20 miles from downtown Los Angeles, because of the highway access for residents of San Bernardino, Riverside, and Orange counties. Roski has spent 15 years and millions of dollars to help bring professional football back to the L.A. area. For now, it’s too late for Los Angeles to have a team in the 2010 season, but Roski’s commitment to make it happen in the near future is unfaltering.
