Radmila Lolly Continues To Champion Women In The Arts With The New Unrivaled League
HAUTE LIVING: What inspired you to attend and contribute to the Unrivaled League panel discussion, and how did your custom corset design align with the event’s theme of women in the arts?
RADMILA LOLLY: Attending the Unrivaled League panel was an opportunity to celebrate and amplify the voices of women in the arts, a theme I hold close to my heart. My custom corset design was inspired by the idea of strength and artistry intertwined—melding structured tailoring with artistic elements to reflect the resilience and creativity of women in this space. It was my way of visually contributing to the conversation, showing how fashion can be a medium to tell empowering stories.
HL: During the panel, there was a focus on understanding the business side of the arts and confidently advocating for one’s work. Can you share your perspective on these topics and how they resonate with your journey as a designer?
RL: Navigating the business side of the arts requires a blend of passion, strategy, and perseverance. For me, understanding the market, building connections, and presenting my work with confidence have been crucial. It’s not just about the designs but also how they fit into a larger narrative. Advocating for my work means standing firm in my vision while being adaptable to opportunities—a balance I’ve cultivated through years of collaboration and learning.
HL: As someone deeply involved in basketball couture, what excites you the most about the launch of the new Unrivaled League, and how do you see it influencing the intersection of sports and fashion?
RL: The launch of the Unrivaled League is thrilling because it represents a new chapter where sports and fashion can converge in innovative ways. I’m particularly excited about how it offers a platform for storytelling through design—elevating fan gear into couture that reflects individuality and passion for the game. It’s a movement that bridges athleticism and artistry, which is the core of my work in basketball couture.
HL: Your recent “Courtside lady fit” at the Miami Heat vs. Lakers game garnered attention during Art Basel. How do events like these inspire your designs, and what story were you hoping to convey with that look?
RL: Events like Art Basel are a melting pot of culture, creativity, and expression, which naturally fuels my design process. With the “Courtside lady fit,” I wanted to create a look that merged high fashion with sport, embodying sophistication and edge. It was a tribute to the dynamic energy of the game and the art world, aiming to inspire confidence and individuality in those who wear my designs.
HL: The Unrivaled League panel brought together an impressive roster of voices, including Napheesa Collier, Mickalene Thomas, and moderator Cari Champion. What insights or discussions from the panel stood out to you the most?
RL: One of the most impactful moments was the discussion around creating opportunities for women to lead in traditionally male-dominated spaces. Hearing Mickalene Thomas speak about the importance of representation in art resonated deeply, as it aligns with my mission of redefining how fashion intersects with sports.
HL: Looking ahead to the January 17 kickoff event for the Unrivaled League, do you have any plans to showcase your designs or collaborate in ways that celebrate the league’s mission?
RL: Absolutely! I’m currently exploring ways to debut exclusive pieces inspired by the league’s mission of empowerment and excellence. Whether it’s through custom designs for players or a capsule collection that embodies the spirit of the Unrivaled League, my goal is to contribute creatively to this groundbreaking initiative. Stay tuned—there’s definitely more to come!
