San Francisco Food Trucks Bring Upscale Dining to the Masses
Street food is not typically deemed exceptionally delicious or very high end. In other major cities, it is treated as a last minute resort for a bite on the go. This doesn’t hold true in San Francisco. Targeting all citizens from Financial District hot shots to low-budget foodies, these trucks please all. Their main goal is to bring excellent cuisine to the masses and they do so in style.
Some of these ventures are offshoots of large scale dining establishments. For example, Spencer on the Go! is a food vendor that is a mobile version of the popular French restaurant, Chez Spencer. They serve hand-held wonders such as an Escargot Puff Lollipop and Braised Lamb Cheeks Sandwich.
Other restaurants serve as independents. The much loved Creme Brulee Cart torches mini crème brulees from their tiny mobile station. Typically found in the Mission District, the crème brulee man posts his whereabouts on his Twitter account so fans can easily snatch one of his delicacies.
Beyond the basic fare, these mobile vendors can get quite unique with the cuisine they serve. Kung Fu Tacos, which has made its permanent residence in a parking lot at Montgomery and Sacramento, serves Asian style tacos. From Asian Asada to Roast Duck, these tacos are sure to please those with an adventurous appetite.
The upcoming August 21st SF Street Food Festival, presented by La Cocina, will be the second annual celebration of San Francisco and the street food we all love. The above mention carts will be present as well as some additional upscale dining options such as Aziza, Flour + Water, and The Slanted Door. This event not only seeks to share the city’s love of mobile vendors, but also to encourage the city’s policies to allow for the growth and development of this niche market. From tacos to treats and so much more, San Francisco’s upscale street food is a charming addition to the city’s impressive gastronomy.
