On the eve of the prestigious Latin Billboard Awards, J Balvin, one of Latin music’s most prominent and beloved figures, honored the evening by toasting to Latin music with none other than a Buchanan’s Whisky cocktail in hand as he celebrated at Casa Buchanan’s: The Speakeasy, in Las Vegas.
The Latin Billboard Awards will take place in Las Vegas’ Venetian Resort, airing at 8 p.m. EST on April 25th. This year’s awards ceremony is particularly noteworthy, as it’s celebrating a total of 24 Spanish-language songs hitting the Billboard Hot 100 list—the most in history occurring in a single year. This marks a significant sign of success for Latin music entering the ears of listeners on a global scale.

Balvin is one of the most noteworthy names changing the game for Latin artists and reggaeton music, and this year he’s up for an incredible 13 nominations, including Billboard Artist of the Year with Bad Bunny, Daddy Yankee and Ozuna. He’ll also be performing at the coveted award show.
In honor of Latin artists’ achievement as a whole in the music industry, Balvin and friends gathered with Buchanan’s to commemorate the occasion leading up to the big evening the following day. Buchanan’s ensured that the experience was extra-special, as it transformed the space into the ultimate sexy speakeasy. Upon arrival, guests were whisked into a barbershop where they were greeted by an actor disguised as Buchanan’s Founder, “James Buchanan,” and after, escorted to a secret back door which led guests to an amazing, immersive experience. Guests enjoyed lively reggaeton music and innovative libations, as well as performances by flapper dancers reminiscent of the 1920s speakeasy life.

J Balvin even put his mixology skills to use as he torched the jalepeños atop his latest “Viva Buchanan’s” cocktail, adding some flair to the moment and creating the perfect photo opportunity for fans, friends and family to admire. Additionally, GRAMMY-winning DJ duo Play-N-Skillz, the producers behind the pop hit “Con Calma Remix” featuring Daddy Yankee, Snow and Katy Perry, created the smoking “Rio de Putumayo” cocktail, served through a copper still steamer with dry ice. The newest member of la familia, Dominican artist DaniLeigh, brought her Caribbean flair to her “Master Piña” cocktail.
It was certainly a night to remember, and one that was fitting to celebrate the success of Latin artists from all over the world.
