For her shared passion with Monsieur Christian Dior—dance—Maria Grazia Chiuri designed a stunning collection of costumes for Nuit Blanche—a ballet in a series of three, performed as an ode to composer and musician Philip Glass at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma in Rome. In collaboration with Eleonora Abbagnato—the Director of Ballet at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma and an toile at the Opéra National in Paris—Chiuri’s creations represent her exploration of the intersection of dance, culture and couture.

“I’ve admired Eleonora Abbagnato’s work for years,” began Chiuri, Creative Director of Dior Women. “She is an extraordinary artist who has worked hard to achieve her goals. She represents a great source of inspiration for a new generation of women. Her career, much like mine, was forged between Italy and France, which brings the two of us even closer together.”

Abbagnato herself showcased one of the designs as she danced alongside world famous dancer Friedmann Vogel, in an awe-inspiring performance, wearing a full skirt with silk flowers between two layers of tulle from the 16-piece collection. Chiuri made her starting point by studying the intricacies of dancers’ bodies, while representing a more modern look at the notions of masculinity and femininity, using light and delicate materials coming together in a functional and beautiful manner.
