Any surfer knows that getting on the waves is its own kind of therapy. A Walk on Water is a nonprofit that provides surf therapy to children with special needs. Trained instructors provide surf education and take children out on the water for a day they’ll never forget. In addition to giving special needs kids a well-needed break on the beach, surfing is also a major booster of self-confidence.

Recently, celebrities including Anthony Kedis of Red Hot Chili Peppers joined A Walk on Water for a special event out at Malibu Surfrider Beach. Other celebrities who came out for the festivities included Below Deck stars Adam Glick and Sandy Yawn, musician Matt Costa, and pro surfers Courtney Conlogue and Adam Sarlo.

More than 100 athletes participated in all, with 200 volunteers and 40 instructors dedicated to giving an incredible group of kids the skills they needed to conquer the waves. In true L.A. style, A Walk on Water is the perfect example of the healing powers of the ocean. Check out their website for future opportunities to volunteer or donate.
