New York Weekend Roundup: Art, Activism, and Architecture

With New York in full Fall swing, the chilly weather is coming back out with everyone’s sweater collections in tow. To celebrate the new seasonal shift, ditch the Pumpkin Spiced Lattes and head to some of these incredible new exhibitions, happenings, and locales that are opening up all throughout the city. Here are some of our favorite events from last weekend.

Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirror Rooms

New to the David Zwirmer Gallery is this celebrated artists return to New York with some of her most widely known pieces, her Infinity Mirrors. Fresh off the celebrated opening of her museum in Tokyo, Kusama’s exhibition in New York is becoming the go-to spot for art lovers and Instagrammers alike. The lines are said to be ungodly long but well worth it for that little like bubble to pop up in triple digits next time you check your feed.

Festival Albertine

This congregation of female minds in new York has been orchestrated by Robin Morgan and Gloria Steinem herself. The meeting brought together some of the best French-speaking and US artists and thinkers for five days to talk about politics, diversity and representation of the female body.The festival also had a big line up of bold faced names in the women’s activism world, and was free to attend.

Canstruction

In the 24th annual Cans-For-A-Cause contest, architecture teams used only cans on non perishable goods to construct gigantic pop art sculptures in all kinds of shapes and sizes. Winners were be judged on best use of labels, best meal to make from the cans, and overall presentation as well as “people’s choice” the event. All the cans were then donated to a food bank in the city, over 120,000 will now go to a good home this Thanksgiving.
