New York Fashion Week Day 6: Top Shows Of NYFW
Haute Living’s Fashion Editor is going behind-the-scenes to bring you the daily news and trends from New York Fashion Week’s top shows.
Derek Lam’s Spring 2018 collection provides a not-so-subtle nod to the all-American look. The common thread this season throughout the different looks is Lam’s use of dark, crisp denim to accent classic closet staples like moto jackets and leather khaki colored tapered trousers. And yes, Lam even went there with denim-on-denim by pairing wide-leg trousers with a matching button-up that is worn as a two-piece suit – the crowd loved this elevated take on the Canadian Tuxedo. Lam’s gift to us this spring is that of a redefined American sportswear look, one that feels modern yet comes with a hint of western flare.
What makes Zimmermann so remarkable season after season is the brand’s ability to weave intricate workmanship into spring staples like shorts and button ups, and dream up romantic silhouettes that seem so new and fresh at the same time. We all know Zimmerman’s designs as the easy breezy floral go-to dress in the hotter months, but this season designer Nicky Zimmermann introduces us to her take on classic beachwear board shorts by adding flirty ruffles and thigh-high side slits that just seem so effortless and chic. It is a fun collection that will make packing for your beach getaway even more enjoyable.

Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia showcased their sophomore collection designing for the house of Oscar de la Renta. Inspired by pop-art the duo was literal with paint splatter–print on crisp button-downs and PVC heels. This collection was met with mixed reviews. Is the duo honoring the brands heritage? Or rejecting it completely? Whatever side you fall on, Kim and Garcia have moved on from Mr. De la Renta aesthetic bringing a fun and younger feel to the brand.
