Alexander’s Steakhouse

For a truly memorable meal, head to Alexander’s Steakhouse in SOMA and order the chef’s tasting menu. The large eatery with an open kitchen and white tablecloths specializes in over-the-top decadence. It’s a Japanese-style steakhouse and is one of only a few restaurants in the US that serves authentic Kobe beef from Kobe City, Japan. It’s the most marbleized beautiful steak you’ve ever seen. Alexander’s has more than 10 different types of Japanese wagyu that is hand cut to order and comes with a selection of salts. Note that a steak at Alexander’s is one of the best steaks we’ve ever eaten.

Epic Steak

Down on the Embarcadero with stunning views of the Bay Bridge is Epic Steak. The eatery is a preferred spot to many athletes: Giants players are often seen celebrating a victory at Epic and outfielder Hunter Pence hosted his wedding here last year. The masculine eatery has eight different cuts of steak. Diners get to choose one sauce—béarnaise, chimichurri, horseradish, or the house steak sauce—to accompany the beef.  Decadent add-ons like lobster, Dungeness crab, and Point Reyes blue cheese are also available.

Lolinda

Lolinda is an excellent Argentine-style steakhouse in the Mission. The loud eatery has a boisterous, lively, and fun atmosphere. Booths make it a great spot for a group celebration. Order the asado mixto and you’ll enjoy a savory mixture of grilled meats including flap loin, short rib, chorizo, and morcilla (blood sausage). The cocktails are taken seriously at Lolinda, so if you’re in the mood for something potent, be sure to order the good stuff.

Bobo’s

Bobo’s is an old-school steakhouse on Lombard Street. Think icy cold martinis, iceberg wedge salads, and red leather booths. There are three different kinds of filet mignon on the menu: petite, bone-in, and super bone-in—and all are cooked to a perfect medium rare.  If you’re craving surf and turf, you’ve come to the right place. Bobo’s is also known for its signature Dungeness crab roasted in a finger-licking-good garlic sauce.

Osso Steakhouse

Osso is another classic steakhouse, but it is located at the top of Nob Hill. The prime-aged beef is seared in its natural juices with a hint of rosemary and garlic. Although you’re coming for the steak, be sure to order the skillet-roasted chorizo cheese bread as a starter. It’s addictive and super tasty. Sides are classic: crispy roasted potatoes with sea salt, creamed spinach, sauteed mushrooms, macaroni and cheese, and crispy fried onions. Yum!
