Quick Hits: Kick Off Chicago Polo Season on June 11
Chicago Polo season starts on June 11, 2017 in Oak Brook, Ill.
There are few more sophisticated ways to kick off (or should we say stomp into) summer than attending a polo match. In Chicago, that means heading out to Oak Brook on June 11 for Chicago Polo Day and the start of the 2017 polo season.
This year’s event, dubbed “Pimm’s, Ponies, and Polo,” fetes the 95th anniversary of Oak Brook Polo, one of the oldest and most distinguished polo clubs in the country. The day’s main event is a 6-chukker match between rivals the Oak Brook Polo Team, captained by James Drury, and the the Arranmore Polo Team, lead by John Greene.
Between matches, attendees are invited to visit food trucks by Toasty Cheese, Muffins Ice Cream and Stan’s Donuts and walk-up bars stationed around the club, or partake in the polo tradition of stomping the divots. For an even more elevated experience, purchase a club ticket, which includes access to the polo club and a complementary glass of Champagne, or start your Sunday with the official pre-polo brunch in the Drake Hotel’s Three Oaks Ballroom, which overlooks Price of Wales field.
Whatever you do: don’t forget your hat.
