Weekend Roundup in NYC: April Fools’ Day, Cherry Blossoms, and a Pillow Fight
The 32nd Annual April Fools’ Day parade took place at Fifth Avenue and 59th Street at noon, marching down Fifth Avenue to Trump Tower. This year’s theme, Make Russia Great Again, invited marchers to wear Donald Trump masks, hailing him as the 2017 King of Fools. The “Trumpathon,” as they called it, included a life-size doll of the president sitting on a toilet, among other colorful sights.
People of all ages gathered at Washington Square Park on Saturday, April 1st for a chance to participate in an urban pillow fight for International Pillow Fight Day, which is apparently a holiday that exists. The event raised awareness for Dare2B, whose efforts go toward providing homeless children ages 5-17 with solutions. Donate to Dare2B here.
Smorgasburg’s debut weekend kicked off the season on Saturday in Williamsburg and on Sunday in Prospect Park. A total of over 100 food vendors gather on the Williamsburg waterfront at East River State Park and at Prospect Park’s Lincoln Road entrance to indulge in the city’s best food. Every weekend, 11am to 6pm.
It’s Cherrywatch time at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, where the cherry blossoms are starting to bloom! A sure sign for New Yorkers that the weather may get better soon, the cherry blossoms begin to bloom in April through mid-May. Located in the Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden, the flowers create an incredible path on the Cherry Walk at peak season. Now through mid-May, at Brooklyn Botanical Garden.
