Haute 100: Elon Musk Finally Reveal Details Regarding Mars Mission
Haute 100 lister Elon Musk has been planning his interplanetary take over for quite a while now. However, it was not until of recent did the public get a whiff of Musk’s details.
The South African born tech tycoon revealed the details regarding his first NASA mission to send the Red Dragon to Mars. In an interview with the Washington Post, Musk pointed out the mission will be risky, but believes people will sign up to be part of the journey because of their desire to be a pioneer. He continued, “Essentially what we’re saying is we’re establishing a cargo route to Mars. It’s a regular cargo route. You can count on it. It’s going to happen every 26 months. Like a train leaving the station. And if scientists around the world know that they can count on that, and it’s going to be inexpensive, relatively speaking compared to anything in the past, then they will plan accordingly and come up with a lot of great experiments.”
So what do we know?
- The company would aim to fly at least two Falcon Heavy rockets and Dragon spacecraft, loaded with experiments.
- The Dragon spacecraft would become the largest object to land in Mars
- “The first mission wouldn’t have a huge number of people on it, because if something goes wrong, we want to risk the fewest number of lives as possible.”
- SpaceX will be sending spacecrafts to Mars regularly every two years starting in 2018.
- Musk has not selected who would be among the first group of individuals to participate on the journey.
- Musk believes it will be a dangerous task and people will die, but ultimately they will be paving the way to make it safe for those to come.
- Musk will reveal the system in September.
