We’ve decided to leave St. Marks and Hockaday off the list since those are traditionally a given. Instead we’ve looked for newer schools that are pursuing excellence in education in unique ways.

Richmond Hill Montessori

Richmond Hill Montessori was established in 2000 which makes them the new kid on the block when compared to other private schools in the area. They are a Montessori preschool and elementary school, specializing in the education of children between 18 months and 10 years old. Classrooms are large, comfortable, and equipped with plenty of Montessori materials. Since it is a small school the teachers have time to get to know each student and understand their unique learning styles. A calm, peaceful classroom environment where children work independently to learn at their own pace is a key element of this program.

Covenant Classical School

Covenant Classical School began with 14 students in 1999 but wasn’t totally complete and on its permanent campus until 2013. The school encompasses all of the grades from kindergarten through twelfth grades. They have a strong Christian philosophy along with traditional classical teaching methods that are divided into Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric stages, teaching children how to learn rather than teaching them what to think.

The Winston School

The Winston School is a college preparatory school with small classes. It is designed to help bright students who learn differently maximize their learning potential. This is accomplished through individualized learning strategies, testing and evaluation, and assessment by the teachers. The process develops a students academic strengths while helping to overcome his weaknesses. This in turn instills confidence in the student so that they can develop an understanding of their own learning styles and what works for them.

Children’s University is an academic program for children 18 months through 10 years (sixth grade) of age. The school offers a balanced blend of academics, business enrichment, and hands on learning. The seven acre campus offers children the opportunity for a variety of learning experiences. The teacher student ratio is as low as 1:20 and each teacher specializes in a particular subject so that the students get the benefit of the instructors passion for, and knowledge of, his or her subject. Dallas International School offers students from preschool through high school a unique education in both English and French. The academic program is administered in multiple languages integrates the French National Curriculum with American education’s best practices.  From age three students are taught in both French and English with Spanish as a third language. Once the student reaches middle school he may choose to take Chinese for a fourth language. Being multilingual in today’s global market ultimately gives the student an advantage in his chosen career.
