Where to Get the Best Macarons in Dallas

Chocolate chip cookies will always be popular but the hottest cookie in Dallas is the macaron. It’s texture is a delicate balance of crisp, soft, and chewy — a crisp outer shell which crumbles into a soft chewy center with intense flavor. And oh! those flavors. Chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry of course but also brilliant combinations limited only by the imagination of the individual baker.
Macarons are a difficult cookie to master and so are generally purchased rather than made at home. One of the hottest spots to get them is located in one of the hottest spots in Dallas — Joy Macarons in Bishop Arts District. Owner Liz Lanier began baking out of her home and sold the delicate cookies at the Dallas Farmer’s Market. In the fall of 2014 she opened her own shop located at 839 W Davis Street.
The shop is airy and bright with large windows and lots of glass. Between the old brick walls and the new glass windows and display counters the space is an eclectic combination of old and new — just like the macarons themselves. The space showcases the colorful confections perfectly.
Pink, yellow, deepest purple — the cookies come in all the colors that you can imagine but it’s the flavors that will have you coming back again and again. There are the classics like vanilla bean and dark chocolate but it’s the unique flavors that make Joy Macarons so special. The Rose and Lychee flavor is filled with white chocolate ganache infused with rose water and finished with lychee pate de fruit. Violet and Black Currant combines the violet ganache and black currant jam. Lavender and Honey, Lemon Fleur de Sel, each flavor seems more special than the last.
When you are looking for something special, something elegant and unique, a trip to Joy Macarons is nearly as good as an afternoon in Paris, and takes much less time.
The store is closed on Monday but is open 10 am to 6 pm Tuesday through Sunday.
