Donald Trump’s New NYC Golf Course Is The Most Expensive Ever Built in US
Let’s face it, New York City isn’t exactly a global destination for golf. The city’s mostly cramped corridors aren’t full of ample room for a great 18 hole course. The few public golf courses that do exist within city limits also leave a little to be desired. Luckily for the golf lovers among us, Donald Trump has opened New York city’s first public golf course in 52 years, and it promises to offer the only Tournament-level golfing experience in the big apple.
The new course, dubbed the Trump Golf Links At Ferry Point, was built on a 222-acre former landfill site in the Bronx. The long-gestating project has been in the works for 20 years, with numerous roadblocks halting progress, but was put back on track when real estate mogul Donald Trump took over in 2011. The links-style course cost $269 million to build and includes beautiful views of the Manhattan skyline. It features no trees and dunes up to 50 feet high. A temporary club house is currently being used, and will be replaced by a permanent one next year for $10 million.
Trump hopes to draw rich clientele from Manhattan’s wealthier neighborhoods. “It’s the best location I’ve ever seen for a golf course because you’re right outside Manhattan. They can have people taking buses from Park Avenue and Fifth Avenue.” Trump expressed to the New York Post.
According to longtime designer of the project, Jack Nicklaus, “Ferry Point was created to be a unique public golf experience, and it is our collective hope that the golf course will add to New York City’s global reputation, enhance New York’s reputation for quality golf, and give its proud residents a place to play and call home.”
The city hopes to use the golf course to attract a PGA championship to the city.
The Trump Golf Links At Ferry Point opens today. Residents of New York City will pay a green free of $141 on weekdays and $169 on Weekends. Non-residents will pay $190 on weekdays and up to $215 on weekends.
