A Glimpse Inside Patrick Dempsey’s Frank Gehry Malibu Home
Named “Tin House” by its previous owners, Patrick Dempsey‘s Frank Gehry Malibu home was created in 1968 for artist Ron Davis.

The Dempseys called on Estee Stanley—a decorator and fashion stylist who had designed their previous residence— to add warmth and comfort to the approximately 5,000-square-foot interior spaces, differentiated by partial walls.

Stanley met this challenge by filling the home with custom-made furnishings organized into relaxing spaces, and adding charming antiques and vintage objects.

“Estee’s work has a feminine vibe that brings a second energy to the tougher, more muscular forms of the architecture,” Patrick observes. “She’s also very attuned to the kind of soulful antiques and art we love to collect.”

The Dempseys liked the work that landscape designer Scott Shrader had done for the previous residents, so they called on him to transform the five-acre-grounds into an inviting “family fun zone.”

Shrader accomplished this brilliantly, by installing a gravel approach, terraced gardens with built-in seating, front and rear cobblestone courtyards, a lawn, an outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven, and a wicker-canopied dining area.

An inviting swimming pool is surrounded by a repurposed-wood deck accentuated with seating cushioned with Perennials fabrics.
