The Hautest Looks for Spring from Saks’ James Krohn
Need to know what’s haute in fashion for Spring? Look no further than Saks Fifth Avenue San Francisco’s resident expert, James Krohn. The Director of the Fifth Avenue Club not only has an extensive fashion background, but he brings a wealth of style knowledge from international travel and his hands-on experience dressing the most fabulous Bay Area socialites. From the working woman to the wealthy, James offers advice from tips, tricks and even wardrobe overhauls, all of which are absolutely essential for making a statement in fashion. James sat down with Haute Living to offer his personal take on the hautest looks for spring.
Ladylike Redux
Tip from James: Want to look like a lady but skip the lunch? Spring is full of ladylike clothes that avoid clichés and keep you looking youthful. Yigal Azrouel channels the vibe perfectly with an Aztec print dress with leather piping and mesh back. $1,290
The City Sandal
Tip from James: More curbside than poolside the city sandal is characterized by a chunkier heel and an urban sensibility. This ‘must add’ is an easy way to update your dresses and cotton capris. My favorite is Valentino’s rock stud version in cherry red. $1,095
Nuit Blanches
Tip from James: Addicted to black? Pop it with white! Black and white are the perfect pairing for day to night and night to day. Be daring and mix prints and textures for maximum effect. Roberto Cavalli’s optic prints are grounded by a motorcycle jacket, amping the cool factor. $3,605/$650/$855
Midi Length
Tip from James: The days of designers dictating hemlines are fashion history, so how do you give women something new who are bored with the mini/maxi debate? Midi length was an important message on many runways but no one soared higher than Dior’s Raf Simons whose midi was a study in aerodynamics and asymmetry. $6,600/$1,150
Head to Toe
Tip from James: Ten years ago the reigning sportswear philosophy was that you always broke up a print and mixed it with a solid. Today you scream ‘ fashion’ if you wear it head to toe, and if you’re really daring you’ll choose a shoe that continues the theme. $1,900/$925/$895
Toujours is French for Always and All Days
Tip from James: Fendi’s 2Jours has become the go-to for women who want one new bag that they can carry all of the time. This season they’ve re-invented the classic with a dégradé version that is a joyful study in geometry and tonality. It’s perfect paired with white. $2,850
