Derek Lam Takes On the Antiquing World

News | April 21, 2010

It seems fitting that after all his success in women’s wear the San Francisco-born designer Derek Lam has touched the world of antiquing. OK, so he won’t be rummaging antique shops or hosting the Antiques Road Show with Mark Walberg anytime soon, but he is holding a special position for San Francisco’s Antiques Show. San Francisco’s Fall Antiques Show has named Derek Lam as Honorary Chair for the 2010 show. This year’s theme Chinoiserie: Rococo to Eco (which ties into the city-wide theme of Shanghai Celebration is set to occur October 28-31, 2010. Lam will be hosting the preview party on October 27 at the Fort Mason Center with show chair, Michele Goss.

For more than 25 years, the San Francisco Antiques Show has served as a major fundraising event to support the Enterprise of High School Students. The organization serves to find job placement and career development for San Francisco’s high school students. Although gaining no profits from the antique dealer sales, this year’s roster offers attendees plenty to choose from. Visitors can also expect plenty of decorative flare and beauty, not only from the exhibitions but also from the 20-foot pagoda entrance designed by architect Andrew Skurman.

Creating wearable, beautiful and “unfussy” women’s wear garments is no problem for Derek Lam. Since winning the Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund in 2005, Lam is already regarded amongst the ranks of some of the most influential designers of our time. We are sure that this year’s event will evoke some of Lam’s creative genius.
