Haute 100 Update Miami: Stephen Ross Teams Up With Thomas Heatherwick For NY Public Art
Developer Stephen Ross has decided to team with British artist, designer, and architect Thomas Heatherwick to create a public work of art at the center of his $15 billion Hudson Yards on Manhattan’s West Side. Thomas Heatherwick will be working with landscape architect Thomas Woltz to design a 4-acre public space with a grand artwork centerpiece. Ross plans is to spend up to $75 million on the artistic focal point and aspires to develop what he calls “a new icon for the city”.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to integrate a new kind of public space into the fabric of the city and to add another layer to New York’s rich cultural heritage,” said Thomas Heatherwick who is known for his aesthetically grand creations. His works include the B of the Bang in Manchester and the 2012 Olympic Cauldron. No word on when the project is scheduled to be complete but it is predicted that it will be “the greatest tourist attraction in New York.”
